Project Management Office Assistant Site Manager Administrative

SCS Technical Shared Services (TSS), Project Center of Excellence Department

This position will be located at The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL

WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL

  • This position will be based out of Birmingham, AL, however candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and would be willing to travel to the corporate buildings and project sites as needed to support business needs.

  • Travel will be approximately 25% consisting of up to two project sites per month, spending 2 to 3 days at the site as needed to perform site assessments.

  • Will require travel to project sites primarily within the traditional Southern Company footprint (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi), but may include other locations in the continental US.

  • Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will serve as a partner with TSS project teams in project execution through promotion of standardization and consistency, identifying and reducing risk, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement. This position will have the opportunity to work with project teams across the entire TSS footprint.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the TSS Project Peer Review process which includes leading a team of SMEs to perform 1 review per month geared towards knowledge sharing and best practices.

  • Perform in-person site assessments at each of the TSS project sites to help teams identify potential gaps in their implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Assist in the maintenance of PCOE procedures and guidelines, and aid in the development of new ones as needed.

  • Develop and administer training for policies and procedures, and contract administration.

  • Maintain and provide user support for the MOBI applications owned by Construction Services, which includes per diem authorization, bid list approval, and summary of award approval.

  • Assist project teams in identifying and resolving SOX issues, particularly related to invoice reconciliation, contract implementation and transparency.

  • Perform per diem verifications and annual per diem rate updates for TSS.

  • Coordinate annual imputed income reporting for TSS employees with assigned company vehicles.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Job Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building Science or Construction Management preferred

  • Five (5) years plant, project, and/or construction management experience required

  • Demonstrated skills of working with or supporting project work personnel

  • Experience managing construction office activities preferred (process and procedures)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts and labor agreements.

  • Ability to accurately appraise technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.

Behavioral Attributes:

  • Strong supervisory skills with excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to lead diverse groups toward a common goal.

  • Proven risk assessment skills and sound judgment/decision making skills are essential.
