Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for an Educational Technology Analyst. The successful candidate is responsible for collaborating with colleagues from across campus to deliver and support teaching and learning services, including the integration of the University's new AI+ initiative across the curricula. This position offers a unique opportunity to ensure ITS is providing leading technology in support of the academic mission at one of four University Centers in the State University of New York (SUNY) system.

The Analyst is instrumental in supporting and expanding capabilities in academic and virtual computing environments and integrating data across teaching and learning services. They will also play a key role in helping faculty identify and incorporate emerging AI technologies into their courses. The successful candidate is passionate about using innovative technologies to advance teaching and learning activities, has strong technical acumen, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They are confident working with diverse audiences, including faculty, technical colleagues, service teams, and campus stakeholders.

The Analyst is self-motivated and effective working under limited supervision, both independently and as a team member. They are expected to make decisions and recommendations consistent with ITS standards and practices, represent the organization in a professional manner, and serve as a subject matter expert in the continuous improvement of technologies supporting teaching and learning services.

Primary Responsibilities:

Design and implement new teaching and learning service offerings and solutions:

  • Work directly with faculty to understand the specific technical needs of individual courses.

  • Lead and contribute to design teams that translate course needs into technical solution designs, including documentation as needed.

  • Lead and contribute to project teams to implement designed solutions, including technical and documentation needs.

  • Operationalize technical implementations for faculty and student use.

  • Lead ITS activities in support and continuous improvement of existing and emerging academic computing and virtual learning environments.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in person, in writing and within documentation.

Focus on AI:

  • Work on the service team that onboards and supports faculty as they incorporate AI systems into their curricula across a wide range of disciplines.

  • Develop expertise with AI computer and storage resources available for use in courses.

  • Communicate AI capabilities effectively to faculty in a variety of digital and in-person forums.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as escalation support for a variety of teaching and learning IT systems.

  • Monitor issues and problems across UAlbany classrooms, labs, and virtual spaces. Identify patterns in need of comprehensive attention and proactively engage with faculty to ensure excellent service delivery.

  • Work collaboratively with others to plan service roadmaps, schedules, and forecast expenses for continuous advancement and cyclical replacement of computers and AV technologies for hundreds of classrooms and labs on multiple campuses, as well as virtual spaces.

  • Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • 3 years professional experience maintaining virtual environments, content management systems and SaaS delivered solutions.

  • 1 year experience directly working with instructors to support use of technology for teaching.

  • Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of AI concepts, including machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.

  • Applicants must demonstrate fluency with computing skills, including Microsoft 365 applications and collaboration tools such as Zoom and/or MS Teams.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree or advanced certification(s) in a relevant discipline (computer science, data science, instructional systems design, informatics) from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • 2 years professional experience with SaaS delivery models in education.

  • 2 years professional experience with AI applications in education.

  • Demonstrated experience with operations or administration of digital learning environment solutions, including LTI, API, and data integrations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of varied desktop operating systems.

  • Awareness of electronic and IT accessibility standards (web content, digital content, learning spaces). Professional certifications in ITIL or Project Management trades.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Programmer/Analyst, SL4, $80,000-$85,000
