Job Title: Senior Underwriter

Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Retail Lending

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Salary Grade: Exempt

Supervisory Responsibility: No

SUMMARY:

The Senior Underwriter’s primary responsibility is to manage the underwriting portions of the residential lending process to include secondary market residential loans. Tasks include reviewing documentation, calculating income, recommending loan decisions and communicating with loan originators and customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor and/or Trustco Bank’s Board of Directors.

  • Evaluate and ensure all loan documentation is accurate, complete and compliant.

  • Analyze the cash flow and financial condition of the borrower. Review financial statements, credit reports, applicable ratios, loan-to-value ratio and other supporting documentation.

  • Review property appraisals to ensure they meet the banks policies, guidelines and practices.

  • Effectively and efficiently, maintain standard underwriting turnaround time for loan decisions.

  • Maintain and ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations affecting the underwriting and issuance of credit to borrowers.

  • Maintain current knowledge of all loan products and origination requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Must be a Direct Endorsement (DE) Underwriter

· High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.

· Customer service experience.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Well organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work to time sensitive deadlines.

· Ability to work well independently and in groups.

· Working knowledge with Microsoft Office Programs; Excel and Word.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Must be a Direct Endorsement (DE) Underwriter

· An Associate’s degree, or higher, in business related field.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS:

This is a full-time position. Office hours Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm and some Saturdays. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL:

Travel using personal vehicle, occasional overnight travel. Valid driver’s license required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace ; bilingual skills a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, including but not limited to company policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
