As a system software development engineer in Micron’s Scalable Memory Systems group, you will work with the memory industry's leading architecture team on new concepts which will craft the future of computing systems! This role will involve analyzing Micron's heterogeneous computing technologies to support broad development needs in the areas of performance benchmarking, system modeling, computer architecture, product verification and applications engineering! You will be responsible for defining system requirements, collaborating hardware design teams on architecture definition, programming model development, system software design and implementation. You will have project lead responsibilities including project definition, planning and task assignments, reporting, and schedule ownership. Other areas of responsibility may include compiler / tools development, server and lab environment support and development of test infrastructure. This hybrid work schedule position is located in Allen, TX.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Application porting, tuning, optimization and performance benchmarking

  • Direct collaboration with hardware development teams on architecture, system designs, and prototype system bring up

  • Providing feedback to architecture and development teams to improve performance of hardware and software

  • Working with the design teams to define technical requirements and specifications for compiler, system software, programming models, and performance analysis tools

  • Defining system architectures that span multiple devices and hosts

  • Development of runtime libraries and tools

We are seeking candidates with the following:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Computer Science or equivalent and 10+ years work experience in computer system development

  • Desired: Master’s Computer Science or equivalent and 5+ years work experience

  • Desired: Ph.D. Computer Science or equivalent and relevant experience

  • Strong programming skills in C and C++ Solid understanding of scripting languages: bash, python, Perl, etc.

  • Solid understanding of application profiling tools and optimization techniques

  • Solid understanding of computer architectures (X86, ARM, RISC-V) and systems, including parallel computing techniques

  • Solid understanding of virtual memory architectures and operating system design

  • Experience in AI system software architecture

  • Experience programming GPUs (Cuda, Pytorch, ROCm, Nvidia Cloud Direct, etc)

  • Experience working on designs that span multiple devices and multiple hosts

  • Experience with architectural simulation/emulation/QEMU

  • Experience working directly with hardware teams and hardware bring-up / debug

  • Experience with Linux systems and system software development

  • Experience with GNU / LLVM compilers

  • Experience with the OpenMP programming interface

  • Experience with the Rust programming language

  • Experience working with FPGA systems

  • Experience with source control systems GitHub / SVN

  • Working knowledge of machine learning and machine learning architectures

  • Working knowledge of CXL (compute express link) memory interconnects

  • Project / team leadership experience (planning, design, implementation)

  • Strong debug and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment
