Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Director, Network Engineering and Field Technology Support Position

As The Director, Network Engineering and Field Technology Support (FTS), you will provide leadership, oversight, and technical direction for a 24x7x365 critical national infrastructure environment with 200+ remote sites. This position will lead a team of highly skilled engineers to develop and manage network and telecommunications architecture. The Director, will provide continued pipeline operations, ensures continued reliable and secure operations of Colonial’s voice and data network that spans 5500 miles and achieves 99.99% system uptime on critical equipment. This role is responsible for network & telecommunications Planning, Design, Security and Support: voice and data communications including data networks, routers, switches, network monitoring systems, voice, desk phones, voice mail, network security, etc. that provides the backbone for Colonial’s operational technologies including SCADA and overall pipeline operations. The Director, Network Engineering and FTS will oversee management of large-scale complex projects from conception to completion including project timelines, internal/external resources, detailed status reports and budget. Ensures life cycle management of environment to stay current, reliable, and available. Colonial is looking for someone that can drive innovation by evaluating new technologies for environment and business fit.

  • Collaborate with technology senior leadership to define technology strategies and initiatives that support business growth and operational efficiency.

  • Develop field technology implementation strategy for lifecycle refresh to meet company requirements.

  • Develop process and procedures to maintain best practices to support Network engineering.

  • Oversees strategic complex project management and innovation.

  • Provides technical expertise in the design and architecture of network and telecom systems.

  • Interfaces with all Technology teams to ensure systems meet overall Technology team objectives.

  • Liaisons between stakeholders and IT Support to ensure adherence to IT Standards and to assist in design and implementation.

  • Leads troubleshooting of system outages; manages critical situations recovery and provides ongoing communication updates to executive and Technology management; leverages critical thinking and SME knowledge to plan system recovery, stabilizes network and telecom environment; interfaces with telecom carriers; restores operational environment.

  • Lead the design and architecture of enterprise-wide network solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative network solutions that drive business value.

  • Develop run books and reference architecture for technology support organization and technology standards to create a sustainable network engineering design.

  • Lead the process development and improvement of innovative network engineering processes and tools from concept to delivery with a focus on new technologies.

  • Provides vision and direction for strategic systems planning. Provides continual advanced training to other (Network, System Admin,) Engineers.

  • Stays current on developments in the Information Technology industry.

  • Aids in the design and implementation of Security enhancements.

  • Implement best practices for network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.

  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to mitigate cybersecurity risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity to implement security products in the field.

  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and reliability of network infrastructure and field technology solutions.

  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and impact of technology implementations, and regularly assess and report on progress to senior management.

  • Develop and manage budgets for technology implementation projects, allocate resources effectively, and track expenditures to ensure financial accountability and cost-effectiveness.

  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the Company’s business continuity and disaster recovery activities o Handles network changes, additions, short and long-term needs, and individual special requests Responsible for communications problems.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education,

  • Ideally, 10+ years of IT/Network planning, design experience demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility; OR in In lieu of degree, approximately 15 years of IT/Network planning, design experience demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility will be considered.
