Job Title: Soil Sampler

Job Description

Responsible for a variety of tasks including homogenizing soil, sub-sampling soil, cleaning laboratory sample cups and well plates, using computer software to enter data, and maintaining and cleaning various equipment. You will strictly adhere to and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety requirements. You will also perform daily and weekly maintenance tasks on equipment and perform other related duties as assigned. This role is for the Fall season (likely until Thanksgiving, but could be longer depending on the sampling season). The company purchased the former Solum lab in Ames and is a soil testing startup based out of California that gets busy in the spring and fall doing soil testing for farmers. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time. PPE is required when working in the lab, including a lab coat, safety glasses, gloves, and closed-toed leather shoes. The work environment can get dusty, and candidates should dress accordingly with closed-toed shoes, long pants, and work-appropriate shirts.

This is a fully on-site position in Ames, Iowa.

Work Environment

This is an analytical lab that can get dusty. The hours are 8 AM to 4:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch break. Weekend work is not expected but could occur on rare occasions. Candidates should be flexible as work volume can vary due to weather conditions, potentially affecting the ability to get a full 40 hours each week. PPE is required in the lab, and candidates can have one earbud in to listen to music while working.
