Madison County Government Director of Secure Detention Services in Anderson, Indiana

Monday-Friday, Day Shift with required flexibility

Responsibilities: The incumbent serves as the Director of Detention Services, responsible for supervising and directing assigned personnel and ensuring the safety and security of the residents.

Incumbent also responsible for ensuring compliance with all Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) standards, Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Conditions of Confinement standards, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, and Indiana Department of Children Services (DCS) standards. Incumbent shall oversee program implementation and monitor adherence to policy and procedure. Incumbent coordinates, tracks, and actively facilitates training to meet or exceed the above standards.

Duties:

  1. Oversee the daily operation of the Detention and Security departments according to the Youth Center's mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  2. Monitor the maintenance and upkeep and the facility.
  3. Supervise, direct, and evaluate the Supervisors, JDO (Juvenile Detention Officers), security staff, interns, and volunteers.
  4. Interview, select, and train JDOs and security personnel.
  5. Oversee the scheduling of JDOs and security personnel. Continuously evaluate staffing needs.
  6. Promote a safe and secure environment by supervising and implementing unit policy and procedures and ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.
  7. Supervise the implementation of the behavior management system and reevaluate annually.
  8. Prepare administrative correspondence and reports.
  9. Review all reports and documentation, including incident reports, affidavits of probable cause, resident files, and behavior logs. Review all forms annually.
  10. Maintain inventory of program materials and household supplies.
  11. Monitors medical care and supervises medication administration to residents as prescribed by medical personnel.
  12. Respond to emergencies, including illness, injuries, disputes, and violent outbursts.
  13. Ensure compliance with DOC, PREA, JDAI, DCS and applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.
  14. Writing, updating, and maintaining the Department of Corrections, PREA, and Youth Center Policy and Procedure standards.
  15. Supervise program implementation and compliance according to policy and procedure. Report directly to the Executive Director any failures to maintain compliance.
  16. Plan, coordinate, supervise, and facilitate on- and off-site training activities (i.e., venue, equipment, materials, refreshments, etc.) for all employees, contractors, volunteers, and residents. The incumbent ensures that the facility training plan is developed, evaluated, and updated based on an annual assessment that identifies current job-related training needs and evaluates existing training programs.
  17. Perform other related duties as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Family Science, Sociology, or Child Development is preferred; however, individuals working towards a degree or those with 3-5 years of related experience may be considered. Possession of a valid drivers license with a demonstrated safe driving record, negative pre-employment drug screen, and background checks are required.
