JOB SUMMARY

TTI is seeking a Sr. Materials Engineer with expertise in Metallurgy to support product development, reverse engineering, quality assurance, and advanced engineering. The Sr. Materials Engineer will serve as subject matter expert in metals related areas and work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure TTI products are innovative, high quality, and cost effective. QUALIFICATION

  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical testing, failure analysis, material identification and characterization, metallography, and reverse engineering of metals and other materials

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics, or related field required. Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in related field preferred

  • 5+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in materials characterization and testing, R&D, or manufacturing

  • Expertise in one of the following areas, expertise in multiple areas a plus: coatings, platings, tribology, corrosion, powder metallurgy and sintering, casting, forging, heat treatment, fatigue, creep, ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, magnetic materials

  • General knowledge related to setup and calibration of material analysis equipment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and application/operation of equipment and processes

  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, ability to design experiments, collect, analyze, and present results proactively with minimal supervision

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to balance multiple high priority projects and work closely with project, quality, and safety teams to ensure results are delivered in a timely manner

  • Lean on prior experience to isolate root cause and develop appropriate solutions

  • Previous experience working in consumer products is a plus

  • Experience with CAD, FEA, or process simulation is a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as subject matter expert on metals related topics and be a key contributor on quality, failure analysis, and research and development initiatives related to metals and other materials

  • Perform laboratory testing to understand the impact of material composition, processing, heat treatment, and other factors on metallurgical and mechanical properties

  • Accurately prepare samples and conduct testing using appropriate equipment in a timely manner with minimal supervision

  • Work with project engineers, project managers, quality teams, and other stakeholders to recommend opportunities for value engineering, quality improvements, and innovations

  • Identify improvements and modifications to laboratory equipment and processes to improve accuracy, increase efficiency, and provide new insights into materials investigations

  • Be willing to provide support for non-metals related materials requests, including polymers, elastomers, and ceramics

  • Identify engineering trends and growth areas relevant to company initiatives

  • Demonstrate familiarity with testing standards & methods, advanced analytical equipment, prototyping and failure analysis

  • Participate in intellectual property development and patent review for materials related initiatives

  • Effectively identify and communicate issues to upper management in a clear, concise and timely manner while driving action based on urgency

  • Mentor and train junior engineers in materials design, selection, and failure analysis

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work on-site in a laboratory setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
