Summary

The School of Public Health (SPH) Environmental Health Sciences is hiring an LEO for the 2024 Fall semester for instruction in the 3 credit course titledInfectious Disease and Emergency Response in Communities. The course is a component of the department's online elective series of courses for the online MPH in Population and Health Sciences degree program, and a general elective for MPH, MS and PhD students (but offered only online). By course description, the course focuses onunderstanding of infectious disease outbreaks and control, the current infrastructure in the United States to address infectious diseases and deploy emergency response, the role public health practitioners have in emergency response, and how gaps in infectious disease and emergency response in communities can be addressed. Moreover, the course will explore how a lack of environmental and social justice, as well as racism, exacerbate the harmful outcomes of infectious disease outbreaks and lead to inequitable emergency response. Students will learn to identify the key factors that impact the emergence of infectious disease outbreaks and understand appropriate emergency responses for disease mitigation and management, specifically focused on environmental justice communities in the Great Lakes region.

Appointment: August 24, 2024 to October 14, 2024, 25% FTE

Responsibilities*

The position requires teaching one night per week via Zoom for up to 2 hours over 8 weeks. In addition, office hours 1 hour per week is required (via Zoom). Course syllabus and course material preparation, coordinating guest lectures and course support, assignment development and grading, and guiding students are additional responsibilities. In addition, working with the SPH Instructional Design team on the course platform (Coursera) would be required.

Required Qualifications*

PhD in Environmental Health Science, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, or other relevant field.

? Expertise in infectious disease management.

? Expertise in emergency response and/or emergency management.

? Understand historical factors that result in environmental injustices in communities.

Desired Qualifications*

Prior experience in teaching (or strong interest in teaching) undergraduate and/or graduate level courses.

Familiar with Canvas Learning Management System and Zoom video calling platform.

Work Locations

Remote/Online during the Fall 2024 (August 24, 2024 to October 14, 2024) period.
