Titan America Cement Lab Manager in Athens, Greece

TITAN Cement Company is currently looking for a Cement Lab Manager (CeLM). The role is placed within the Group Research, Innovation & Quality (GRIQ) corporate department, reporting to the Head of Cement & Mortars Unit and is located at TITAN Kamari Cement Plant, in Greece.

The CeLM is responsible to ensure efficient, safe and uninterrupted operation of the GRIQ Cement & Mortars Laboratory. The CeLM contributes to activities related to Research & Development, Innovation and Business Support for cement, mortars and other cement-based products, aiming to add value to the organization, by broadening its product portfolio, enhancing its operational excellence and enriching its knowledge economy. Role duties include managing laboratory personnel, infrastructure and assets, in addition to timely execution and reporting on analytical operations. To achieve their role, the CeLM interfaces with multiple levels of the organization and external partners to bring forth technological novelty and solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Coordinate and manage activities within the GRIQ Cement & Mortars laboratory facility, to ensure safe and uninterrupted laboratory operations, at superior level of performance.

  • Oversee operational safety at laboratory facilities by ensuring proper application of all relevant Health & Safety regulations and guidelines, in addition to maintaining current knowledge of all relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures.

  • Plan and utilize laboratory assets in a careful and efficient manner to provide timely and accurate analytical services according to business needs. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, risk assessments and similar documents. Perform inspections, routine quality checks, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary, reporting timely on appropriate actions.

  • Organize inventory and materials handling, in addition to managing procurement to ensure stock capacity according to operational needs, as well as contribute to preparation of budget estimates.

  • Support and contribute to benchmarking or similar efforts to disseminate and implement best analytical practices in line with internal standards and international or local regulations, focusing on accuracy, repeatability and functionality.

  • Contribute to the implementation of new concepts, products and processes, including product development in collaboration with Business Units (BU’s) and other corporate functions.

  • Collaborate with project teams across TITAN BU’s to deliver results in a goal-directed, time-conscious and structured way, managing cross-functional interfaces.

    What you will bring

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Science (preferably in Chemical, Materials, Civil, Mining or Industrial Engineering, or Physics or Chemistry); proven working experience of at least four (4) years in a relevant position in research or industry.

  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with proven working experience of at least eight (8) years in relevant positions in research or industry.

  • Technical proficiency in cement, mortars and other cement-based products, with strong preference for hands-on experience in manufacturing. Work experience in cement production units, as well as demonstrated experience on accreditation and quality control systems (i.e. ISO 17025, ISO 9001) are considered most appropriate and preferred.

  • Demonstrated capacity in project management, processes, and tools, including planning and tracking progress, timelines, and budgets. Demonstrated ability to deliver results in time and operate within budget.

  • Demonstrated competence in matters related to innovation and sustainability for cement and mortars.

  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Working experience of relevant laboratory information management system (LIMS) will be considered very positively.

  • Fluency in English and in at least one other EU language.

  • Advanced presentation and facilitation skills, combined with writing competence, focusing on professional, scientific publications and reports.

  • Demonstration of scientific knowledge outside of core specialty.

  • International travel within the EU and other destinations will be required (an estimated 10% of the time).

  • Military obligations fulfilled.
