Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine has an immediate need for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neurobiology at the Center for Neurotrauma, MultiOmics & Biomarkers ( CNMB ). We seek to recruit highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral fellows in brain injury and neurotrauma research. The training program will emphasize the use of translational as well as experimental neurotrauma models focusing on biomarker research aiming to understand the pathophysiology of brain health in the area of brain injury. The research position is looking for outstanding trainees with previous expertise in animal model handling, and neurobehavioral techniques and experience in cell culture techniques.

Applicants are expected to conduct research within neurotrauma work while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance research independence needed for the pursuit of a career. The Post-Doctoral Fellow is expected to develop new ideas that promote current research and get involved in preparing scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The work would involve special tasks to train and supervise research staff and students. Positions are for two-year appointments. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal is expected if progress is satisfactory, and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD or MD in neuroscience research or equivalent required from an accredited college or university

Experience:Minimum of two (2) years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Previous research in preclinical models of neurotrauma and behavioral techniques is preferred.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

The Postdoc Fellow will conduct preclinical and clinical biosample analysis for candidate biomarkers for brain injury or disorders using biochemical and ELISA diagnostic assays for research use; and to correlate the biomarker data with other preclinical or clinical data. The job will require experience with neuroscience research , biomarker research and other molecular biology techniques and handling animals (rodents) and conduct animal injury and behavioral studies are required. The project will also involve processing biological samples, data graphing, analysis, statistical analysis, Microsoft office suit usage, presenting and writing up experimental results for group presentation, for project progress reports and/or manuscript preparation.

Duties:

  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of duties to assist investigators in data collection, verification, and compilation of research information related to various fields of research which may include behavioral, community-based and/or clinical research as requested.

  • May assist in protocol design.

  • Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.

  • Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures.

  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

  • Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.

  • May be responsible for demonstrating and training others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.

  • May conduct literature reviews for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.

  • May monitor the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
