Primary Purpose:
Evaluates, enhances, implements, and supports automation technology for lift equipment used at Norfolk Southern intermodal terminals
Principal Duties:
Serves as subject matter expert for electric machines and battery hybrid systems
Evaluate current machine technology to develop long-term equipment strategy
Develop and maintain electrical specifications for future machines
Assess machine design and component specifications
Lead testing and commissioning efforts for new machines
Support Maintenance through remote and on-site troubleshooting of equipment failures to minimize downtime
Serve as team member and/or project leader on process improvement and technology development projects
Collaborate with other teams to identify root causes and provide resolutions
Identifies, evaluates, and implements new technology to lift equipment to improve, safety, reliability, and economic efficiency.
Works with vendors to identify and develop new products and processes to improve equipment utilization
Modify and add features to existing control systems to improve safety and efficiency
Manages and supports hardware and software used for electrical and automation systems
Create tools to enable engineering analysis of machine data
Analyze and interpret data; propose hypotheses as explanations of events, and design experimental studies to test (disprove) these hypotheses
Establishes rapport, builds relationships that create networks with those individuals and stakeholder groups critical to short- and long- term goal attainment
Position requires seven day a week responsibility, emergency call outs, and frequent overnight travel.
Job Related Experience:
- Minimum Level: 5 years Preferred Level: 8+ years
Education:
Minimum Level: Bachelor of Science (BS)
Preferred Level: Master of Science (MS)
Preferred Majors:
- Engineering - Electrical Engineering
Licenses / Certifications:
Required: None listed
Preferred: Professional Engineer License
Technical Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of industrial electrical and control systems (VFDs, motors, etc.)
Hands-on electrical design and troubleshooting both AC and DC systems
Knowledge of power distribution and switchgear design
Thorough knowledge in hybrid system technologies
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build
Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Experience in performing testing and/or validation of complete electrical systems and subsystems
Experience in developing electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
Knowledge in design of single-line, three-line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout and bus arrangement, grounding grid design and lightning protection in conformance with applicable rules and standards
Experience in selection and specification of field devices and sensors
Working knowledge of server and database
Strong analytical, communication (oral & written), and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines
Field commissioning, field support, and start-up experience
