The Office of Medical Education (OME) with the University of Colorado's School of Medicine (SOM) is searching for an LIC Director for the VA Quality and Safety Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC). This position serves in conjunction with other Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) and Rocky Mountain Veteran Administration Medical Center (VAMC) faculty and staff to prepare CU's physician graduates to be systems thinkers, who provide exemplary patient and family-centered care. This is an atwill position and will be available at a 0.3 FTE (salary support plus benefits) equivalent. A longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) was created based on three foundational characteristics of an effective, core clinical educational environment: (1) Student participation in comprehensive care of patients over time (2) Presence of a continuous, learning relationship with those patients' clinicians (3) Meeting core clinical competencies in an ongoing, continuous fashion The School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education transitioned to an LIC model, as part of a larger-scale full curriculum overhaul in 2021. Core clinical education occurs in a longitudinal, integrated fashion primarily in an outpatient setting, with targeted hospital-based training called immersions placed during the core clinical year (generally occurring during the 2nd year of medical school, known as "Foothills"). Core competencies will be taught encompassing care of adults, children, and pregnant patients and are taught by providers representing the disciplines of family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, surgery and emergency medicine. Students in the VAMC receive the majority of their training at the VAMC but rotate at UCHealth (UCH), Children's Hospital of Colorado (CHCO), St. Joseph's Hospital, and community sites as well. The LIC director is responsible for the oversight of the LIC curriculum, and the 12 students assigned to participate in this LIC. The mission of the VA Quality and Safety LIC is to engage the next generation of healthcare physicians to understand their role in identifying and fixing problems in the healthcare system with respect to how healthcare is delivered, by providing a framework for improvement efforts and exposure to these efforts in the clinical environment that they work in. This position willreport directly to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education – Clerkship. None Student Support and Engagement:

  • Onsite 100%, Rocky Mountain Veterans Administration Medical Center (Aurora, Colorado)
