REVISED 07-11-2023 GENERAL DESCRIPTIONPerforms entry level accounting work. Work involves auditing, maintaining, preparing, and posting records, documents, or reports. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSAudits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal statutes. Classifies, codes, posts and balances financial and accounting documents and records.Identifies, researches, compiles, and performs timely follow-up on information requests such as audit requests, vendor research, voucher inquiries, etc. Performs related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalentEducation: Sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: accounting, auditing, banking, or general business.Experience: Experience in accounting and financial operations.Knowledge: Federal and state travel guidelines. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Systems and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5% PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: accounting, auditing, banking, or general business.Experience: Experience in accounting and financial operations.Knowledge: Federal and state travel guidelines. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Systems and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Skills: Skill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval and various software applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word.Abilities: Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data, and to communicate effectively. Certifications: License or Professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor or related certifications.
