The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), a Family Friendly Certified Workplace, is seeking a Program Specialist I to join the Residential Department located at Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center, 4800 N. Lamar, Austin, TX.

You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

The Residential 3-11p.m. shift Program Specialist (Team Lead) is selected by and reports to the Residential Manager and provides services for customers and staff that promote the Texas Confidence Builder's philosophy and facilitates empowerment through assisting customers to achieve emotional adjustment, mastery of alternative skills, ability to cope with the sighted world, and the ability to blend into society. Duties include: participating in assessments to develop customer's training plan; providing practical training and assistance to customers in accordance with the customers individual rehabilitation plan; coordinating customer and visitor room assignments in the dormitory area; responding to emergencies, illnesses, and complaints; maintaining and/or cleaning residential facility and agency property as appropriated per center procedures; and coordinating after-hours training activities, making staff assignments and providing oversight, training skills, after-hours teamwork and ability to maintain positive personal and group interactions in a residential environment. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude for the use of initiative and independen judgment. Performs related work as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Knowledge in oversight to daily operations and completion of duties in a residential setting - Ability to facilitate productive interaction between residents and staff, to assess residents' functional levels, and to train others - Ability to coach, problem-solve and provide staff training for shift employees and coordinate staff participation in required staff development training - Ability to train students and staff in the areas of dining and cleaning using alternative techniques - Ability to coordinate new customer intakes, Residential overviews, tours and complete intake assessments to prepare for student arrivals - Ability to be the contact for emergency situations (fire drills/alarms, tornado drills/warnings, etc.) - Ability to conduct fire safety overviews, fire drills and provide training in proper evacuation procedures, along with providing proper documentation

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS: Fifteen semester hours of college coursework in human services, special education, social science or a related field may substitute for six months of experience. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent plus at least 2 years of experience working with individuals/individuals with disabilities in a residential or dorm living facility.

Will be required to be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid.

Duty requires up to 15% travel (within the state of Texas) with occasional weekend travel and the ability to lift 10 pounds.
