Maryland Transportation Authority Police Health and Wellness Counselor (DOT Executive Asst II) in Baltimore, Maryland

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work:The Police Health and Wellness Counselor provides mental health services including routine mental health counseling and coaching for all sworn and civilian personnel within the MDTA Police Division. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures that mental health assessments are completed by sworn officers;
  • Ensures confidentiality of personnel information;
  • Assigns appropriate mental health alerts to personnel with mental health needs;
  • Makes appropriate referrals and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Assists the Critical Incident Stress Management Unit personnel with training and consultation for critical incident response;
  • Represents the agency in relationships with local, state, and national programs in the fields of mental health, education, and welfare to promote community efforts to meet the needs of MDTA Police personnel;
  • Develops curriculum and training on mental health and stress management topics; and
  • Provides subject matter expertise in support of agency initiatives.

Employees in this position will report to the MDTA Police Health and Wellness Unit Commander or other designated official.The current vacancy exists in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a Graduate Social Worker, Master Social Worker, Certified Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker-Clinical license by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners is required prior to appointment.Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.

Education:Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

Experience:Two years of experience in mental health, behavioral health or crisis intervention counseling with an adult population.

Licenses and Certifications

Employees are required to be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker, Master Social Worker, Certified Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker-Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to permanent appointment.
