Johns Hopkins University Student Accounts Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

Job Summary:

The Student Accounts Coordinator-Third Party assists the Student Accounts Team Lead with the timely billing and collection of third party contracts for more than 200 Third Party Payers sponsoring more than 3500 students a semester across all of the JHU schools. The Student Accounts Coordinator-Third Party has a caseload of students and/or payers and is responsible for following the entire cycle of vendor management. The coordinator receives the contract from the student and works directly with the third party payer until the contract is paid or until the contract reverts to the student for payment.

. Essential Job Responsibilities:

The Student Accounts Coordinator-Third Party serves as the primary liaison between all third party payers and students attending any of the nine schools of Johns Hopkins University in Undergraduate, Graduate and part time programs. The Student Accounts Coordinator- Third Party provides in-depth customer service to students, staff and authorized users regarding payments, account information and resolution regarding outstanding payments or disputes.

  • Receives contracts from students who have third party payers or State 529 plans.

  • Validates, processes, reviews and then bills to third party payers or State 529 plans.

  • Participates in the collection of any overdue third party contracts with third party payers or State 529 plans.

  • Responds to students, parents, third party payers and staff in person, on the phone, and e-mail or written correspondence to resolve student account third party problems and facilitate solutions to their concerns and issues.

  • Maintains the financial integrity of the accounts by constantly monitoring outstanding third party balances to identify issues in regards to unpaid balances or to locate and post payments.

  • Responsible for submitting refund requests to third party vendors when overpayments occur due to dropped classes or other issues.

  • Daily cash reconciliation of payments received by mail.

  • Post checks, wires and ACH payments for all student related items received in the banks.

  • Processes third party vendor credit card payments.

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Abilities and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Post high school education preferred.

  • Additional education may substitute for some experience.

  • A minimum two years of billing customer service experience with a strong customer service orientation required.

  • Experience with accounts receivable and/or accounting background preferred.

  • An ability to react to customers' needs quickly, thoughtfully, and courteously.

  • An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.

  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to organize, prioritize, and work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, often with many interruptions.

  • A proven ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • The ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions.

  • A proficiency in desktop computing using MS Office Word and Excel, email and web interfaces on a Windows platform.

  • Prior experience with SIS would be beneficial but not required.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
