Gear up for a rewarding career! We're looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team and keep our fleet of earth-movers running strong.

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you'll be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of our heavy machinery, ensuring everything from bulldozers and excavators to loaders and cranes function at peak performance. You'll troubleshoot problems, replace parts, and perform overhauls to keep our projects on schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems in heavy equipment using diagnostic tools and manuals.

  • Repair or replace faulty components, such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and brakes.

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks like lubrication, oil changes, and filter replacements.

  • Conduct overhauls on major components to extend equipment life.

  • Troubleshoot and repair attachments like buckets, blades, and grapples.

  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and procedures while working on heavy machinery.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, keeping tools and equipment readily available.

  • May travel to worksites to perform repairs on equipment in the field.

  • Document repairs and maintenance performed in service logs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training or experience in diesel mechanics a plus.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.

  • strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines preferred.

  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be physically able to perform demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and working in awkward positions.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

Accepts assigned work orders from Service Manager in order to begin diagnosing and planning work required to repair the units. This includes but is not limited to electrical, hydraulic, undercarriage, and mechanical repairs.

Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments including hoses, belts, fluids, and filters.

Operate equipment as needed to diagnose and repair.

Make mechanical repairs to equipment after a complete inspection and analysis of breakdown has been completed and approved by the Service Manager.

Responsible for writing complete repair descriptions on work order, including correct model and serial number of equipment and hour meter reading.

Turns in all paperwork to the Service Manager.

Create and organize all paperwork generated during the shop repair.

Perform other duties assigned by management.

If applicable, make service calls up to a 5-hour one way radius from the Newman Tractor location or whatever management deems necessary to service customers (if applicable overnight accommodations

Qualifications

Experience with online parts and service manuals as well as diagnostic software

Self-motivated and professional

Excellent customer service skills/experience

At least 5 years of mechanical service experience in heavy equipment

Willingness to travel up to 10% of hours worked

The essential functions of this role include:

  • working in a smoke free environment

  • wearing steel toe shoes

  • working in a non-temperature controlled environment

  • manual lifting up to 50lbs

  • standing for 8 hours at one time

  • working weekends
