The Lead CLS is responsible for the daily operations of the hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation, including review of records and oversight of equipment maintenance. The Individual is responsible for the validation, development, and/or implementation of new procedures, policies, equipment, and software updates in the hematology/urinalysis/coagulation. The Lead CLS is also responsible for the training and competency of all lab staff assigned to work in the department. In addition, the Lead CLS completes the monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annual QA/QC, correlation, linearity, etc. reports.

Furthermore, the Lead CLS provides guidance and direction to staff, enabling the accurate, timely, and efficient completion of instrument maintenance, quality control, non-conforming event management, and records management.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's: Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, and one year of training or equivalent combination of education and experience meeting state requirements.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

CLSL-Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist

PREFERED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED

Minimum 5 years of working experience as a licensed CLS Generalist

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

In-depth knowledge of the requirements of CAP, and other accrediting agencies.

In-depth knowledge of the operations and QC/QA requirements of hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation.

Demonstrates the ability to plan, coordinate, organize, direct, and evaluate the operations of the hematology/urinalysis/coagulation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, physicians, and other medical center staff.

Skill in the recognition and analysis of problems in laboratory test performance.

Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and others, including medical center staff, vendors, etc.

Ability to act as a role model for other staff. Adheres to all laboratory and medical center policies and procedures.

Duties routinely include staff scheduling, arranging coverage for staff absences, assigning work, prioritizing work, directing problem-solving and trouble-shooting, ensuring shift-to-shift continuity, and managing customer complaints or inquiries.

Serves as the liaison between the Clinical Laboratory Manager and staff, physicians, patients, family, and other hospital staff, leading communication huddles and other structured team meetings (e.g. Daily Engagement).

Provides constructive feedback and recognition to peers, reinforcing Sutter's values and focusing the team's efforts on providing safe, reliable care.

Prior knowledge of computerized laboratory systems is required.

Basic knowledge of computers and business applications, i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

Demonstrates ability to work independently and to think critically in order to effectively solve problems. Has the ability to accept or initiate, implement, and evaluate changes.

Pay Range is $64.54 to $81.86 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
