We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer - Materials Shortage and Obsolescence Management to join our Materials and Processes Engineering team in Berkeley, MO.

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing material obsolescence and shortages impacting production programs at the site (MQ-25, T-7A, F/A-18, F-15) along with spares and legacy programs. Your primary focus will be to ensure contractual requirements are met for disclosing the obsolescence, provide project communication to external and internal customers, develop estimates to support alternate material qualifications, project management of qualification efforts, identification of potential obsolescence and risks, and development of strategies to mitigate these risks. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to minimize any disruptions caused by material obsolescence and shortages. Projects and qualification efforts can range from 100K and several months of effort to 1M+ over several years.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze material obsolescence and shortage risks for production programs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Structures, Fatigue, Materials and Processes, Operations, Materials Management, Supplier Management, and Program Management, to identify potential material obsolescence issues and develop mitigation plans.

  • Compile Diminishing Manufacturing Source (DMS) notifications regarding materials, support to program DMS focals on submittal to customers.

  • Create detailed estimates regarding qualification of alternate materials for customer and program approval

  • Conduct regular assessments of material availability and identify potential shortages.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical staff within the supply base to ensure timely delivery of materials and proactively address any supply chain disruptions.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to identify alternative materials or sources to mitigate obsolescence risks.

  • Work closely with the Materials and Processes Engineering team to evaluate and qualify new materials and processes to replace obsolete ones.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of material changes and minimize impact on production schedules.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to material obsolescence and shortages.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in materials and processes engineering.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Berkeley, MO site.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship .

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience in materials engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Chemical Engineering degree

  • Experience in managing material and/or chemical Obsolescence and shortages in a production environment

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers

  • Proficient in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and project management

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related aerospace materials and chemicals

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience and technical understanding of chemicals, paints, sealants, adhesives, epoxies and other materials used in aerospace or manufacturing industries

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $114,750 - $155,250
