The Sustainability and Supplier Diversity department at Marriott International is responsible for creating the strategy, developing programs to support the strategy, and implementing those programs across Marriott International’s global portfolio of hotels. In addition, this department leads the company’s reporting on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

The Senior Director, Supplier Diversity, is a member of the Sustainability and Supplier Diversity department within the Global

Operations (GO) division. The position will report to the Vice President, Global Operations, Sustainability and Supplier Diversity. This position functions as the global business leader for supplier diversity, providing expertise, strategic direction, and insight, while driving successful initiatives and continuous improvement of the company’s supplier diversity platform, globally.

The Senior Director will provide day-to-day management of all aspects of the supplier diversity platform including communication (internal and external), financial analysis of diverse spend, utilization of various tier 1 and tier 2 platforms, development of training, managing partnerships with key organizations, engaging with diverse suppliers, and delivering progress against goals and supplier diversity strategies for the company.

Specifically, this position will provide leadership and direction in four core Supplier Diversity areas:

  1. Domestic and Global Strategy

  3. Initiatives and Partnerships

  4. Reporting and Analytics


Education and Experience

Required Education:

4-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management,

Procurement, or related major

Required Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in supplier diversity, hospitality, or business consulting

  • Proven track record of relationship building with diverse suppliers

  • Expertise and proven track record in managing complex, multifunctional initiatives

  • Experience in developing global strategy and successfully implementing in a complex organization

  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills

  • Strong negotiating, influencing and creative, innovative problem resolution skills

  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects and tasks in a high-pressure environment within budgets and timelines.

  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including strong attention to detail

  • Proven presentation and facilitation skills

  • Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal, including comfort presenting to small and large audiences ▪ Expertise with MS Office Suite, with focus on Excel.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.

Preferred Experience:

  • Existing relationships with supplier diversity nonprofit organizations such as NMSDC, WBENC, NGLCC, Disability: IN and WEConnect International

  • Understanding of hotel operations

  • Strong knowledge of the competitive landscape and ability to remain current with industry trends ▪ Connected to discipline-related forums

Domestic and Global Strategy:

  • Functions as the worldwide ambassador of the 25+ year old supplier diversity program and specifically provides leadership and direction on all matters of supplier diversity; ensures the program’s policies and processes are continually developed, revised, and implemented

  • Establishes organizational goals and guides procurement centers, continents, and other pertinent stakeholders in goal setting; monitors progress, and supports leadership in recommending and executing action where necessary

  • Develops and maintains key metrics and reporting tools and implements innovative solutions to meet Marriott’s supplier diversity needs around the globe

  • Helps drive leadership accountability and engagement with supplier diversity initiatives across all procurement centers to ensure continued integration, success, and credibility of the program while being held accountable for the overall program success

  • Monitors and aligns corporate goals (sales, development, brand) and supplier diversity efforts and assures conformance with Marriott business partner objectives

  • Develops a succession plan to ensure sustainment of program and continued growth

  • Establishes standardization wherever possible across all business units to assure consistency and accuracy

  • Delivers field-ready diversity tools, strategic assessments, best practices, and benchmarking to support the needs of the organization

  • Guides company-wide participation in industry-wide supplier diversity events, trade shows, matchmaking events and conferences around the world, including boards and committees with strategic partners

  • Proactively seeks out, identifies, and develops high-potential diverse businesses/enterprises that can provide value and services and/or commodities which are purchased by Marriott, working in alignment with 3rd party supply chain management partners, the Marriott Global Procurement team, and other Marriott contracting departments

  • Builds, maintains, and protects Marriott’s brand equity and reputation among key diverse segments

  • Partners with procurement groups and other contracting organizations, maximizing opportunities to drive positive supplier diversity results

  • Conducts qualitative and quantitative market and vendor research to continually improve Marriott’s supplier diversity program, in collaboration with Avendra and other Marriott contracting organizations

  • Manages supplier diversity inquiries, reviews, and responds to mailbox inquiries appropriately

Internal and External Communication:

  • Clearly communicates strategies, initiatives, and analyses to internal stakeholders and leadership on a regulated schedule

  • Participates on external panels, workshops, and represents the discipline in internal town halls and forums

  • Directly briefs senior leaders for Board-Level meetings and working groups on supplier diversity and adjacent diversity, equity, and inclusion topics

  • Ensures that discipline and company need, and expectations are clearly communicated to NGO partners ▪ Maintains relationships with prospective and contracted suppliers

  • Communicates the strategic value of supplier diversity globally across all levels at to ensure company achieves its strategic product/service, financial, and operational initiatives

  • Champions the supplier diversity recognition program

  • Actively engages Supplier Diversity Champions by communicating short-term and long-term goals and initiatives, as well as opportunities for program enhancements

  • Ensures supplier diversity intranet pages are effective and up-to-date communication mediums

  • Ensures supplier diversity sections on external websites are an effective and up-to-date communication medium

  • Guide company supplier diversity recognition strategy including preparing and reviewing award submissions

  • Support other diversity centers of excellence in award and surveys

  • Engage corporate communications on opportunities to utilize supplier diversity initiative in strategic external communications (LinkedIn Blogs, Press Releases, Media Events)

  • Supports the global diversity leadership as needed

Initiatives and Partnerships:

  • Serves as subject matter expert and content leader through the design, development and implementation of global single and multi-brand supplier diversity programs and initiatives

  • Actively engages industry and internal resources to support the development of programs to deliver competitive advantage across all brands

  • Develops professional relationships in industry organizations and with suppliers to help achieve strategic business outcomes

  • Identifies prospective suppliers based on company needs and provides preliminary vetting

  • Builds relationships with perspective suppliers and facilitates showcase opportunities and stakeholder engagement

  • Identifies and leads match-making opportunities for the company, engaging procurement leaders or other stakeholders in the pre-selection and in-person or virtual matchmaker meetings with suppliers when possible

  • Facilitates relationship with selected NGOs and strengthens partnerships including negotiating partnership dues, sponsorships, and other strategic donations to maximize return on investment

  • Coordinates event/conference logistics, invitations, advertisements, and press releases

  • Attends regular events and meetings hosted by NGOs (most require travel, 90% US/Canada)

  • Educates senior leadership, managers, associates, and global corporate customers on supplier diversity by communicating the rationale, goals, and internal procedures regarding the supplier diversity program respective of each country or continent’s diversity policies.

  • Develops and delivers training forums for Marriott leadership and appropriate external customers, suppliers, and potential suppliers, often adapting to different countries and cultures

  • Keeps abreast of relevant industry, legal, and business trends in various parts of the world as well as Marriott market, products and services, and third-party developments which can impact Marriott’s business and overall supplier diversity strategy

  • Organizes and participates in stakeholder meetings (3rd party procurement partners, NGOs, internal leaders, sales).

  • Actively participate in various Serve 360 leadership advisory entities

  • Identifies opportunities for other internal stakeholders (sales, brand, loyalty, marketing) to leverage existing NGO relationships to advance company objectives

Reporting and Analytics (in partnership with Analyst):

  • Leads supplier diversity Tier I and Tier II reporting, including customer reporting, platform management and 3rd party vendor partnership

  • Manages corporate contribution funding and supplier diversity budgets; makes decisions on annual spend, adjusts, plans, and updates budget accordingly

  • Innovate and improve data collection, analysis and reporting to drive accuracy and consistency

  • Directly liaise with Marriott Business Services on the development of custom supplier diversity queries, reports, enhancements, and other data outputs

  • Actively reviews vendor solutions for supplier diversity data quality assurance, data visualization and other enhanced analytics

  • Aligns companies spend tracking policies and procedures with industry leading practices including but not limited to standards articulated by the Billion Dollar Roundtable, Diversity Inc. & leading NGOs

  • Creates and distributes reports to provide metrics for internal and external stakeholders to include but not limited to diversity leadership councils, Board subcommittee, customers, industry groups and global leaders

  • Collaborate with supplier diversity partners to collect and analyze organization databases which support diverse supplier validation (scrub, notification, system updates)

  • Establish certification verification procedures to ensure formerly diverse vendors are no longer captured in spend reporting

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for annual Serve 360 Report completing template and reviews in a timely fashion
