Job Summary

This position will supervise Payroll and Employee Services staff and operations with special focus on ensuring compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal regulations. Responsible for running payroll for PSEG LI Union and Non-Union population and leading efforts for the administration of corporate credit card purchasing program and travel and expense reporting, policy and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the day-to-day workflow among staff to ensure that all work is completed by the established payroll deadlines. Respond to and / or distribute issues and inquiries to appropriate team members for research and follow up or to the manager for escalation.

  • Interface with business unit HR Service Center to resolve employee payroll issues and accommodate any special processing.

  • Responsible for running payroll for PSEG LI Union and Non-Union population

  • Lead/facilitate system analysis, test and implementation of SAP Payroll enhancements

  • Provide expertise for all HR/Payroll related issues; serve as subject matter expert and provide guidance for payroll and/or transactional service process and system expertise to resolve issues, develop and improve Business Center, payroll, and HR transactional process products and services.

  • Implement and coordinate relationships between payroll and employee services and external vendors.

  • Lead projects to ensure timely implementation in areas such as acquisitions and process improvement initiatives.

  • Initiate process improvement initiatives, build and maintain relationships with key managers, and own SOX controls audit, including master data audit compliance.

  • Manage and/or oversee with fiscal and calendar year-end processing of payroll, including supplemental payrolls, W-2 and other tax forms, and other government required documentation.

  • Supervise daily operation of Payroll and/or Employee Services staff by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.

  • Provide back-up for other payroll supervisory personnel, including the manager.

  • Keep abreast of Payroll and HR industry trends and key performance indicators in order to provide input to leverage these trends to improve payroll and HR transactional processes.

  • Track trends and developments in assigned functional areas.

  • Partner with Corporate IT, HR and Finance to ensure compliance, efficiency and effectiveness of the overall delivery system and develops procedures for quality assurance and statistical analysis.

  • Review process and procedures and recommend appropriate changes, including updating process flows and documentation and ensuring Sarbanes Oxley Key and on Key control compliance.

  • Support and lead audit requirements by internal and external clients.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related degree and minimum 4 years of Payroll/Human Resources experience

  • Without a bachelor's degree must have at least 10 years of payroll or related experience

  • 2 years of experience with SAP/HR (PA/PD) Module for all Enterprise employees

  • 5 years of HRIS, SAP and/or or other large company HR/Payroll proficiency

  • Experience in dealing with Union workforce and HR/Payroll policies and procedures

  • Solid project management skills and ability to lead special projects (i.e., upgrades, major organizational changes, etc.)

  • Understanding of employee self-service and similar technology/environment

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, MS-Excel macros, statistical tools

Desired

  • Advanced professional certification such as CPP, PMP, PHR, or SPHR

  • Advanced knowledge of HRIS software, familiarity with Success Factors

  • 2 years of supervisory experience in Payroll/HR environment

  • Understanding of employee self-service and similar technology/environment in SAP/SuccessFactors

  • Experience supervising or working with Union workforce
