Biotherapeutic drug products are typically formulated as liquid dosage forms. In formulations that contain protein, surfactants are often necessary to ensure the protein's stability throughout the drug product's shelf life. Non-ionic surfactants are frequently employed as functional excipients for this purpose. The objective of the master's thesis is to assess the influence of different types and qualities of these surfactants on the stability of the drug product. Additionally, the task involves evaluating potential correlations between the material attributes of the drug, such as antibodies, and the surfactant being tested.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Planning and conducting stability studies for assessing the colloidal or thermal stability of proteins in surfactant-containing formulations

• Determination of protein integrity using different orthogonal methods, such as e. g. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

• Characterization and quantification of surfactants via Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)-based methods

• Usage of different compendial methods for the detection of sub-visible and visible particles such as Micro-flow Imaging (MFI)

• Statistical data evaluation

• Furthermore, you get to know the everyday working routine and the mindset in one of the pharmaceutical industry's top 20 companies

Your Profile

• Currently pursuing master's degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related study field

• High affinity to laboratory work (practical experience desirable)

• High interest in agile mindset, methods and tools

• Independent and structured working style

• Proficient use of MS Office

• Fundamental programming skills in R or Python would be of advantage

• Excellent communication and writing skills in English and German

What we can offer you

• As a student intern, you can expect a fair expense allowance (payment of the currently valid minimum wage)

• You will be given 2.5 days of paid time off for every full month of the internship

• A full-time internship is 37.5 hours a week (a smaller number of hours can be arranged)

• During your thesis you will receive an allowance of 900€ per month

• In our team you have a flexible time model during which you can write your final thesis.

The duration of the internship is 9-12 months ( 3-6-months internship + 6 months master thesis). The start date is in July 2024.
