Job Summary and Responsibilities Summary: The Network Maintenance Technician should be comfortable working in a mission critical environment. This position is responsible for reliable operations on a Telcom network maintaining Service Level Agreements, customer service requests, and responding to abnormal conditions or equipment status alarms. Regular duties will include basic preventive maintenance tasks. The technician is required to execute MOPs and other duties as assigned. They must be a self-starter and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing as required for customer interactions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned: Solving problems using analytical, technical, and organizational abilities Understanding and documenting network infrastructure * Responding to network/facilities-based alerts and problems Qualifications QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS Experience working in a POP, CO. or Hut (replacing/installing packs, meeting customer security requirements, running and lacing cables) 4 years of experience preferred. Experience with DC maintenance (battery routines, fuse replacement) Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field Self-motivated learner Proven high network technical aptitude. Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work diligently and independently. Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with co-workers, management, and contractors. Equipment experience includes Cisco 1100, Ciena, Nokia 7360, Edge Core P2/EMUX or equivalent preferred. Experienced in Sonet and Broadband technologies, including ROADM and Ethernet (layer 1, layer 2, layer 3 OSI), Ability to learn quickly and address issues as they arise during normal working hours or when on call Strong computing and documentation skills A professional appearance PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
