The Grant Writer, Foundation Relations is a highly organized, creative, articulate and adaptable professional who will manage a large roster of external funding opportunities. Responsibilities will range from keeping track of upcoming deadlines and producing succinct summaries to elevating the grantsmanship of submitted material through thoughtful copyediting. The Grant Writer will also assist the Foundations Relations team in the project management of large, complex research proposal development and is expected to proactively take on various writing-based assignments as needs arise.

This Grant Writer, Foundation Relations will:

  • Manage a large roster of external funding opportunities, creating monthly reports, keeping track of upcoming deadlines, and generating succinct summaries for dissemination.

  • Support the proposal preparation process by systematically collecting components, thoughtful copyediting, and creating/maintaining collaborative workspaces throughout the team.

  • Collaborate with foundation relations colleagues in all aspects of writing, editing, research and proposal management.

  • Coordinate large scale writing projects, in partnership with lead fundraiser, that require production across multiple topic areas and/or teams.

  • Prepare written materials to support strategic initiatives, including briefings, select cultivation and stewardship materials, cover letters, templates for social media posts, and sophisticated summaries.

  • Prepare event collateral, including PowerPoint presentations, speaking points and follow-up letters as needed.

  • Assist in identifying and executing on strategies to highlight breakthrough science to external audiences in succinct and innovative ways.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree and minimum of 3 years of relevant writing experience in fundraising, communications, or a related field is required.

  • Exceptional writing skills, with ability to write and edit within context of detailed foundation guidelines and translate complex terminology for lay audiences.

  • Understanding of the grantsmanship process and knowledge of fundraising information sources is preferred.

  • Excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks is essential.

  • Ability to work successfully under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage project development with multiple collaborators.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects successfully in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions.
