The Lab Processing Technician:

  • Performs pre-analytical specimen processing including stamping in, verifying I.D., identifying tests, and evaluating specimen quality and appropriate test set up.

  • Performs computer order entry and inquiry functions.

  • Provides courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.

  • Performs, documents, and evaluates daily QC and follows procedure when QC is out of range.

  • Performs routine operation and maintenance of instrumentation in the work area such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.

  • Maintains workplace in a neat and orderly fashion. Continuously monitors specimen workflow. Ensures quick response for STAT and other timed tests.

  • Participates in departmental continuous improvement projects as necessary.

Shift: 3pm-11:30pm rotating weekends and holidays

To qualify, you must have:

  • High School/GED required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Science-Based STEM disciplines preferred.

  • 3 months of experience required.

  • Skills to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters.

  • Ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.
