Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on performing health assessments, running diagnostic tests, prescribing medication and creating treatment plans as well as providing health and wellness education to patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Physician duties: Diagnoses and treats injuries or illnesses and address health maintenance of patients. Responsibilities also include examining patients, taking medical histories, prescribing medications and ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.

Job Overview

Interns and Residents provide care commensurate with their level of advancement and competence, under the general supervision of appropriately privileged attending teaching staff. It is each practitioner's responsibility to notify their immediate supervisor and to seek assistance if there are any issues that may jeopardize patient safety, or if the resident feels they are being asked to function beyond their level of competence. Medical education involves supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation, patient management functions, and formal educational activities. While in the training program, all interns and residents without exception will function under the supervision of a staff practitioner. .

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications :

  1. Medical school graduate with Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or similar degree.

  2. Prior experience in healthcare research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion of any pre-requisite accredited training specified by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committees.

  2. May require successful passage of board exams (or good faith effort to pass) for promotion through subsequent years of fellowship.

Hospital approved credentials (medical license, clinical privileges). Unrestricted DEA number Appropriate certificate necessary for training (BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, etc.)

Duties and Responsibilities : The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Initiates and follows a personal program of professional growth in conjunction with the formal educational and training. This includes ensuring compassionate, appropriate and cost-effective patient care. Skills demonstrated by the resident should be commensurate with their level of training and responsibility.

  2. Participates in the educational activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students by making daily rounds.

  3. Performs procedures, which are specified by each program director, under the direct supervision of attending physician. Interns and Residents may only perform those procedures for which the attending physician has privileges. Once the Intern or Resident has performed the appropriate number of procedures in a competent fashion the program director will provide notification that he/she is eligible to be certified to perform the procedure without direct supervision.

  4. Assumes progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to his/her level of education, ability and experience. The program director and the attending staff will determine the his/her level of responsibility and autonomy.

  5. Communicates effectively with their supervising attending regarding the findings of their evaluation, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and intended interventions on a continuous basis.

  6. Meets institutional requirements with respect to medical records.

  7. Participates fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students.

  8. Participates in appropriate institutional committees and councils whose actions affect their education and/or patient care including, but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement activities.

  9. Participates on committees and councils whose actions affect medical education and patient care.

  10. Participate in institution-sponsored Interdisciplinary Grand Rounds or other program- specific didactic educational experiences.

Physical Requirements :

  1. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.

  2. Lifts, positions, pushes and or transfer patients and equipment.

  3. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.

  4. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise and possible exposure to radiation, lasers, electric shock etc.

  5. Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases and other transmissible infections.

  6. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances including interhospital transport in emergency vehicles, ambulances, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

  7. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

  8. Handle emergency crisis situations.

  9. May have contact with hazardous materials

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

  2. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the age of the population served including: Knowledge of growth and development, Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care; Provide age appropriate communication; for to the following populations: Neonate, Adolescents, and Adults.
