Job Description:

CDM Smith has an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior BI Solution Architect on our Digital Capital team who will leverage their passion for analysis, business intelligence, and data to enable decision-making within our organization and drive operational excellence. This role will work closely with our BI, analytics and enterprise data teams to maintain, develop and modernize our analytics platforms. We’re looking for a hands-on person who is self-driven and has experience in creating end-to-end BI solutions, including data-rich dashboards, creation of complex models and strong data knowledge.

• Elaborates an initial conceptual vision of application landscape for analytics and engineer it into a concrete architecture; present on solution architecture and create prototypes and proof of concepts.

• Analyzes and helps drive business requirements and translates them into functional user stories; Architects and designs end to end solutions and owns creation of technical requirements, process flows, data mappings, data model additions and decisions related to the development cycle of analytical solutions and applications.

• Coordinates and leads design approvals, code reviews, architecture reviews and security reviews.

• Evaluates application development practices, making recommendations for new metrics, techniques, and strategies while utilizing standard practices, policies, and procedures.

• Responsible for architecting analytics solutions in a scalable manner, utilizing agreed upon technologies, following data governance and security protocol and providing technical leadership and issue resolution across sprints and work streams to downstream developers/testers.

• Tests to ensure applications conform to development standards and meets the requirements of the end user. Performs ongoing architecture quality and code reviews for specific projects/programs.

• Conducts requirement reviews/hand-offs, demos and trainings, UAT testing efforts and acts as primary point of contact to the business sponsor or product owner.

• Partners with Enterprise Architects and source system SMEs on the design and implementation data layers.

• Drives and documents frameworks, patterns, standards, templates for effective use of our analytics and BI platforms.

• Collaborates and consults with various teams by providing technical and domain guidance.

• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree.

• 6 years of related experience.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with self-service BI tools, citizen developers or being part of a Center of Excellence.

• Experience with working in an Agile environment; Strong project management skills.

• Ability to learn the industry and business nuances quickly.

• Experience in other scripting languages such as Python, R, SAS and other BI tools.

Skills and Abilities:

• Expert level experience in Microsoft BI stack for both visualization, data modeling, data security, admin functions and exposure to Microsoft Fabric; understanding of full suite of Microsoft BI offerings.

• Ability to stay up to date on new feature releases and best practices within the choose platforms, products and BI space.

• Data analysis and BI development experience using large data repositories; Experience and knowledge in large database technologies, concepts and modern data warehousing

• Strong SQL and DAX ability.

• Experience working on large BI projects/programs.

• Competent in developing engaging and effective data visualizations.

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and accountability for achieving results as well as able to work independently, gathering appropriate knowledge, resources and escalating when necessary.

• Ability to explain concepts to non-technical and technical clients and colleagues.

• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with key partners.

• Strong relationship management, interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills. Ability to drive change and lead/influence others without formal authority.

• Developed critical thinking skills and ability to navigate ambiguous situations to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.

• A passion for learning and curiosity, willingness to experiment with technologies outside of comfort area and think of new way to help make our data and BI platforms more scalable, resilient and reliable.

• Ability to work effectively in a distributed global team environment.
