Position Overview:

The Department of Applied Human Sciences at Western Kentucky University is pleased to announce we are accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure eligible appointment at the rank of Instructor I. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for education, a deep understanding of the fashion industry, and the ability to inspire the next generation of fashion professionals. This is a full-time position focused on delivering high-quality instruction and contributing to the growth and success of the Fashion Merchandising program.

Skills and Expertise:

In-depth knowledge of fashion trends, consumer behavior, textiles, and retail strategies.

Proficiency with merchandising tools and software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Browzwear.

Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to create and implement an engaging, forward-thinking curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

Course Development:

Design and update curriculum for fashion merchandising courses, ensuring alignment with current industry trends and academic standards.

Instruction:

Deliver engaging lectures, workshops, and practical experiences to foster student learning and development.

Student Support:

Provide academic advising and career mentorship, guiding students on pathways in fashion merchandising.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Create and assess student assignments, projects, and exams, offering constructive feedback to enhance learning outcomes.

Industry Engagement:

Establish and maintain relationships with fashion professionals, organizing guest lectures, field trips, and collaborative projects.

Professional Development:

Stay updated on fashion and educational trends through continuous learning and development.

University Involvement:

Participate in departmental meetings and committees, curriculum development, program reviews, university and college committees, and accreditation processes.

Community Engagement:

Lead and participate in outreach activities that promote the program, such as fashion workshops, exhibitions, local organizations, and local collaborations.

Technology Integration:

Incorporate relevant design and merchandising software into instruction to enhance students' technical skills and industry readiness.

Job Requirements:

Master's degree in Fashion Merchandising or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience, OR Bachelor's degree in Fashion with at least 10 years of managerial-level experience in the fashion industry.
