Position Summary
The City of Bozeman is now accepting applications for a Fleet Parts Worker who will support our Fleet Maintenance Team through the managing of requisitions, purchasing, inventory, and distribution of automotive and heavy-duty parts, tools, and supplies. The Fleet Parts Worker will also coordinate the City of Bozeman’s waste oil and antifreeze collection program while ensuring compliance and efficiency.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Researches, orders, and purchases parts; oils, and lubricants; equipment and tools; supplies and services for automotive and heavy equipment fleet repairs;
Assists the public with the process for disposing used waste oil and recycling of antifreeze;
Contacts appropriate parties to make arrangements for waste oil and antifreeze collection;
Maintains accurate records of used waste oil and antifreeze disposed of;
Enters vehicle maintenance repair order forms;
Prepares invoices for payment;
Prepares annual waste oil reports;
Prepares and prints vehicle maintenance reports;
Conducts periodic inventories and determines stock needs;
Coordinates, prepares, and returns parts and equipment to vendors;
Perform miscellaneous shop clean-up tasks including but not limited to, sweeping floors, washing vehicles, washing various vehicle parts, and cleaning mechanic work bench areas;
Clean, organize, and check out shop tools and supplies;
Perform general computer work and other administrative duties as assigned;
Assist mechanics with equipment servicing and repair as needed such as charging vehicle batteries and jump starting vehicles;
Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required;
Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the work day;
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audiovisual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; and
Some (1 year) of experience in automotive, record keeping, or related maintenance experience; or,
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of various oils, chemicals, and parts used in automotive and heavy equipment;
Knowledge of basic safety principles and practices for working in a shop environment;
Knowledge of repair order procedures;
Knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment;
Some knowledge of vehicle maintenance;
Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the overall functions, duties and responsibilities of assigned Departments/divisions;
Ability to distinguish between anti-freeze, petroleum products, solvent degreasers, and household chemicals;
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner while providing accurate information and a high level of customer service;
Ability to read, interpret, understand, and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard and/or customized software applications;
Ability to perform a variety of duties with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Required Special Qualifications
Must possess a valid Driver’s License upon hire and obtain a Montana Class D Driver’s License within 60 days of employment;
Must possess a Forklift Operator certification or obtain within 90 days of hire;
Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to a criminal background check.
