Brief Position Overview

The Off Campus Student Life Program Manager will provide resources to students seeking support for off-campus housing, community transportation, and advise them on neighborhood and community integration. This role works closely with MSU Student Success through Office of Student Engagement and in strong partnership with MSU Student Housing.

This position works directly with students in one-on-one advising meetings and will maintain professional relationships with campus and community stakeholders, including landlords and housing and transportation public officials. The employee in this role provides and continually develops educational group workshops, events, resources, and online reference materials.

The OCSL Program Manager must be knowledgeable about the range of support available to students through Student Success and MSU more broadly. The position requires strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information and use unbiased decision-making to support students.

Position Details

General Statement

Under the purview of the Office of Student Engagement, Off-Campus Student Life ( OCSL ) will provide crucial services to students living off campus in the Bozeman area. The OCSL is in the heart of the Strand Union Building and students will seek advice and referrals to help them transition into living in the Bozeman community. Office staff will provide advice for students looking for roommates and places to rent; referrals to various resources like legal support; and information about community transportation resources. The efforts of OCSL will center on supporting student quality of life off campus and community integration, thereby empowering students to succeed academically and persist to graduation

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as a collaborative member of the MSU Office of Student Engagement team and serve in a student-centered, professional manner.

  • Meet and correspond with MSU students and campus partners to collect, manage, and analyze data to determine housing, transportation, and community integration needs.

  • Work closely with the MSU Student Success to connect students to available support services through affiliated MSU offices and community partners.

  • Create student-centered educational materials to focus on the core function of the position.

  • Manage educational materials and resource database, including online software platforms.

  • Meet monthly with community housing stakeholders, transportation managers, and city officials to coordinate programing, identify areas of collaboration, and foster community support network for MSU students living off campus.

  • Plan and facilitate group workshops, events, and learning opportunities both in online and in-person modalities.

  • Collect and maintain records and data to support program evaluation and future program development.

  • Collaborate with campus partners and advise ASMSU student leadership as they develop and implement a student-oriented shuttle and/or cab service program.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of leadership experience, program coordination experience and/or equivalent education and experience

  • Serve as a student development professional, advance ASMSU programming goals, and maintain student-centered professional rapport.

  • Demonstrated competence maintaining confidential records with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated competence using personal computers and various software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, email and the internet.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student and stakeholders in a complex high-energy collaborative team

  • Experience in transportation and/or housing management

  • Experience working with campus and community partners

  • Experience in event facilitation

  • Experience in student advising
