GAI Consultants is looking for an Engineer 2 within our Civil and Environmental Business Sector. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment. This position can report to any of the following offices: Glen Allen, VA; Warrenton, VA; Bridgeport, WV; or Charleston, WV. Job Duties: Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineer project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; preparation; and permitting. Undertakes technical and feasibility studies. Collaborates with other professionals and discusses requirements with team members. Uses computer programs to develop detailed designs. Ensures that work products meet client, environmental, and safety requirements. Performs work under guidance from professional engineering staff. Handles basic to moderate issues and problems but will refer complex issues to more experienced staff. Possesses strong working knowledge of civil engineering design tasks and a positive attitude. Possesses strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and analysis modules. Performs moderate to complex civil design tasks while delegating more routine tasks to staff with less experience. Mentor, guide and check the work of less experienced staff. Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required. Adhere to safety and quality procedures of GAI and our clients. Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of this position include the ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc. in various temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations. General Characteristics Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area. Engineering Certification/Licensure Professional Engineer (P.E.) License Technical Responsibilities Designs a complete project, system, component, or process. Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents. Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data. Begins to develop and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Project and Task Management Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff. Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work. Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects. Management Responsibility Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
