Responsibilities:

This post will expand the software development team in the UK to meet the demands of new and existing programs. The post holder will work alongside a highly experienced chief software engineer in a team of two, with minimal supervision, but with access to support and guidance when required.

  • You will play a leading role in the design, documentation, development and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for complex software systems.

  • You will also develop and maintain code, and integrate software components into a fully functional software system.

  • You will assist with test procedures to ensure software system requirements are met. A key element of the role is to problem-solve and troubleshoot software, database and middleware issues in live production systems.

  • Furthermore, you will lead the development, documentation and maintenance of software application architectures in order to meet customer, functional, and/or regulatory requirements, quality objectives, and constraints specific to the applicable domain and available technology.

  • Provide technical leadership for projects including schedules, plans, and estimates. Prioritizes tasks and leads reviews. Assists Project Managers with risk management and progress reviews.

  • Develop software designs and algorithms, define external interfaces, leads trade studies and ensure application of best practices.

  • Reviews statements of work, translates user requirements into system requirements, processes and tasks and produces estimates.

  • Manage relationships with customers and suppliers, contacts suppliers and subcontractors to exchange technical data and to discuss project performance.

  • Participate in the development of fundamental approaches to projects and requirements for implementation.

  • Leads development, maintenance, and unit tests for complex software applications. Leads architecture decisions and best practice implementations using current and emerging technologies.

  • Participate in internal/external design reviews.

  • Lead integration/test efforts of complex software applications.

  • Lead development, selection, tailoring and continuous integration and continuous delivery of software.

  • Provides expertise on resolution of operational and integration issues to external customers. Supports issue resolution, leads root cause analysis for all software issues, identifies opportunities and implements process improvements.

The essential knowledge, skills and experience required for this role are:

Expertise in the following technologies:

  • Java/J2EE development experience, including de-bugging and performance testing.

  • Oracle SQL/PLSQL.

  • Linux.

  • Spring framework including Sprint boot etc.

  • EXTJS.

  • Hibernate Spring JPA.

  • Tomcat Server.

  • Javascript frameworks e.g. REACT JS.

  • Docker and Kubernetes containerization and orchestration.

  • Webservices, RESTful APIs, and microservices.

  • Experience of working with a DBA to find and debug logs.

  • Knowledge of Agile development processes.

  • Working with Software repositories such as SVN and GIT.

  • Good communication skills, including professionally interacting directly with customers.

  • Ability to problem solve under pressure in software, databases and middleware.

  • A strong interest in new software technologies and a demonstrated ability to continuing to learn and develop skills.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Use of Docker or other deployment tools

  • Use of Maven or other build tools

  • Experience of using an ETL tool e.g. Pentaho

  • Working with virtual machines.

  • Servicemix/JBOSS Fuse

  • Understanding of development and deployment to Cloud platforms

  • Knowledge of Jenkins

  • Knowledge of Keycloak
