The Senior Accountant is a member of the School’s Business Office department and reports to the Controller. This full time, 12 month position is a key contributor in the proper accounting and reporting for the School and supporting the financial needs of faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will bring a history of collaborative, self-directed accounting work and will serve as a welcoming presence in the Business Office.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and assist with the monthly close process.

  • Collaborate with the External Program directors to reconcile all summer and auxiliary programs income and expenses.

  • Collaborate with the Controller and Accountant to retrieve and reconcile student tuition and accounts receivable billing and cash flow monthly.

  • Work with Accountant to reconcile and maintain prepaid and accrual balances throughout the year and at year-end.

  • Assist the Controller with all audits and Federal and State tax forms, including but not limited to: annual financial statement audit, 403(b) audit, Form 990, and MA PC.

  • Compile and maintain statistics for benchmarking to review with the Controller and Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations.

  • As requested, support the Business Office team with its continuing responsibilities.

     

    Qualifications and Abilities 

     

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant nonprofit accounting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and Blackbaud or similar accounting software.

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.

  • Demonstrated experience in a culturally diverse community including diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language, family structure, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

  • The ability remain in a stationary position for 30 minutes at a time 

  • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets and necessary supplies.

  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)

  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
