The Walt Disney Company Instructional Design Project Manager in Burbank, California

The Segment Design team is an internal Instructional Design Center of Excellence/Expertise that supports the full breadth of The Walt Disney Company. The team designs and develops custom learning solutions to support the Company’s highest priorities. These solutions range from broad, Enterprise-wide courses, like Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion to custom, highly impactful topics that align to specific business goals.

Due to the variety of businesses and learning needs the team supports, the work requires a high degree of analytical ability to identify gaps in performance, creativity to propose and develop solutions appropriate to the situation, and agility to continue progress through our company’s rapid pace of change.

The Instructional Design Project Manager (IDPM) is responsible for end-to-end development and performs multiple functions on a project, including Project Management, Instructional Design, Instructional Writer, and technical development.

The IDPM must be able to quickly assess audience/business needs and identify the appropriate learning solution to achieve the desired outcome, including instructor led, blended, experiential, media based, performance support, and other emerging technologies.

This position interacts directly with multiple teams within the learning organization, client representatives, and subject matter experts. Therefore, individuals are required to work with a high degree of collaboration, consultation, and focus on client service. Each IDPM generally carries 3 to 5 projects of varying complexities and with different points of contact simultaneously. Priorities change rapidly, so the ability to pivot quickly and effectively is an absolute requirement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze learning needs and propose effective learning solutions

  • Interact with stakeholder groups, which may consist of a single project point of contact or multiple contacts. Influence these groups, as necessary, to bring the stakeholders to agreement on the learning solution.

  • Using Instructional Design expertise, design and develop high-quality, learning solutions balancing speed to market and scale

  • Initiate and manage throughout the lifecycle of a project, including kickoff, designing project plans, executing all milestones and tasks, monitoring risk, and successfully reaching stated learning goals

  • Author scripts and other course materials, applying various writing styles and demonstrating an expertise in grammar, punctuation, spelling, company nomenclature, and copyright compliance

  • Collaborate effectively with immediate members of the team and others on the project

  • Communicate and host routine project meetings with key partners

  • Ensure that all learning solutions reflect our company’s values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Utilize multiple sources of information and extensive business knowledge to ensure intended learning outcomes are measured and produced

  • Develop and nurture inclusive relationships with peers and partners

  • Manage vendor projects, as needed

  • Build relationships with key partners to become a trusted advisor

  • Manage assigned projects/programs with minimal guidance and provide guidance and support for colleagues with less experience

Qualifications:

  • Practical experience/knowledge of Instructional Design with demonstrated strong potential to develop new skills quickly

  • Desired: Formal education in Instructional Design or equivalent

  • Desired: Experience with Instructional Design development tools, such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, as well as Adobe creative suite or other graphics programs
