This position will design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.

Electrical Engineer 1 – Heart Failure – Burlington, MA

We are seeking a high caliber Electrical Engineer to play an important role in Abbott’s Heart Failure/Mechanical Circulatory Support (HF/MCS) R&D organization. In this position, you will member of the Electrical Engineering R&D team responsible for the development and qualification of new designs/products/subsystems for our market-leading Left Ventricular-Assist devices. The MCS division of Abbott is known for its HeartMate suite of Ventricular-Assist systems that continue to improve the lives of tens of thousands of patients suffering from heart failure.

The selected candidate will apply electrical engineering knowledge to support design, qualification, and product sustaining activities for the existing and next generation HeartMate systems. Specifically, this candidate will support development efforts including participating in design reviews, perform circuit test and analysis, develop/execute electrical test protocols, write test reports, develop test fixtures/automation, and support other product development activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports sustaining engineering activities.

  • Develops verification test protocols, test execution, and writes test reports.

  • Developing test methods, test fixtures, automation SW as needed.

  • Supports and manages tests conducted at external laboratories as needed.

  • Participates in electrical designs and technical design reviews.

  • Optimizes electrical circuits through characterization, modeling, data analysis and statistics.

  • Conducts root cause analysis on various design issues.

  • Position may require up to 10% travel.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sound design principles and practices.

  • Proficiency with general lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, programmable loads).

  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or related field

  • Experience in electrical design and qualification.

  • Experience with development in a regulated environment (Medical Device, defense, automotive)

  • Understands good documentation practices.

  • Takes the initiative to recognize and solve problems proactively.

  • Good hands-on analog & digital circuit design experience for embedded systems.

  • Comfortable using math and physics to solve engineering problems.

The base pay for this position is $48,000.00 – $96,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
