Your Opportunity

The Distribution Group Manager is responsible for all aspects of distribution design execution including providing leadership and coaching with emphasis on, quality review, progress tracking, and project delivery. This position will be responsible for ensuring that an assigned design team complies with Stantec’s Engineering Practices Policy and will be significantly involved in technical training of team members. The Team Lead will make critical contributions by leading the daily operations of the team and overall program quality. This is a complex job requiring strong judgment, exceptional communication skills and a thorough understanding of distribution design requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a fast-growing team of distribution designers and engineers to successfully execute project deliverables.

  • Oversee all projects, setting clear direction and expectations, keeping staff focused on objectives, and fostering a culture of teamwork and dedication to meeting goals.

  • Manage team workloads and project priorities in close collaboration with Project Managers.

  • Provide technical advice and direction to the team.

  • Perform quality checks, quality audits, build lessons learned documentation and improvement plans.

  • Understand and apply all applicable industry and client standards for design and engineering.

  • Monitor safety procedures work practices.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients. Participate in client meetings as required, lead discussions with clients technical and quality representatives

  • Support and facilitate client escalations.

  • Participate in recruitment and managing staff, including conducting performance evaluations, dealing with performance issues, and developing staff training and development plans.

  • Communicate with the BC leadership on team resourcing and project health.

  • Identify and address the needs of distribution programs with respect to processes, tools, and additional support.

  • Assist the BC leadership with strategic planning and growth opportunities.

  • Effective Interpersonal Skills – Strong Written and Verbal skills are a must to ensure clear communication between team members, clients, contractors, and suppliers.

  • Able to work effectively both independently under minimal supervision, and as a member of a team.

  • Strong customer service focus supported by solid time management and prioritization skills

  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to set priorities, organize work and complete work within given timelines.

  • Systematic approach to problem solving.

  • Ability to adapt to ongoing changes.

  • Demonstrated negotiating skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the domain of distribution design including applied knowledge of codes, regulations and distribution standards, policies and procedures

Education and Experience

  • Registered P.Eng in British Columbia

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)

  • Minimum of 8 years of detailed design experience in power distribution for utilities within North America

  • Detailed knowledge of BC Hydro distribution design and project delivery a strong asset

  • Stantec offers a flexible work location arrangement.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $88,300 - Lower Mainland $128,000 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
