Jacobs is searching for a Vancouver-based, Intermediate Bridge Engineer to join our growing Transportation Business. This individual needs to be highly personable and a quick learner. Your initial role will be to produce, supervise and manage small and medium scale bridge projects including field reviews, field inspections, structural calculations, and drawing production on a variety of structures. Following an initial integration period your role will progressively grow to include supporting our business development and project delivery teams. The incumbent should be willing to work in a team environment, interact with clients and approval agencies, and assist other engineers and project managers in their deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to Project/Lead Engineer and perform inspection, analysis, and design tasks including:

  • Undertake structural site investigations to support design.

  • Undertake bridge, structure-sized culvert and retaining wall inspections.

  • Perform and supervise small and medium span concrete/steel bridge, culvert and retaining wall rehabilitations and new designs including: technical reports, advanced structural analysis using commercial bridge software such as Midas Civil, CSiBridge or LARSA, load rating, structural assessment, detailed design calculations, quantities, cost estimates, specifications, and calculation checks as per applicable design codes, technical specifications and guidelines such as CSA-S6-19 and AASHTO LRFD.

  • Produce technical reports and memos to support design.

  • Conduct tender review, contractor’s submittals, Request-For-Information responses, and field reviews.

  • Work closely with Project/Lead Engineers during all phases of project planning, execution, and closeout.

  • Develop engineering sketches.

  • Work with technologist to develop detailed engineering drawings.

  • Prepare proposals, project schedules and budget estimates for project pursuits.

  • Work independently and able to work in a team environment with collaborative attitude.

  • Act as a mentor for junior staff and promote continual development.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients.

  • Other duties as required.

You’ll be working mainly from home (unless you prefer coming into the office), with the expectation to travel for client /site meetings and occasional team meetings and field inspections.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Past bridge related project experience for BC MoTI, familiarity and working knowledge of BC MoTI Special Provisions and technical specifications an asset.

  • Detailed design and inspection experience in steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete essential. Working experience of timber inspection and design an asset.

  • Seismic analysis and performance-based design of bridges essential. BC projects an asset.

  • Fundamental project management skills an asset.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree in Structural Engineering an asset).

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in BC or another province in Canada, or in process of obtaining the professional registration.

  • 4 to 8 years of experience in the analysis, design and assessment of bridges. BC projects an asset.

The base salary range for this position is $69,100 to $90,750. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
