Fujitsu Senior Project Manager in Burnaby, British Columbia
Fujitsu is looking for bright and energetic seasoned Sr. Project Manager - Applications Development to join our Vancouver based team on a fulltime/permanent basis.
Our client is a large, complex, and highly regulated organization that requires IT Projects be conducted in a very controlled and structured manner. As a fully outsourced IT organization, the Project Manager will typically interact with multiple service providers, vendors, and teams, both internal and external to ensure smooth and timely delivery of project objectives on time and on budget.

Description
In this role the Sr. Project Manager will be accountable for delivering strategic applications development projects that will require expertise in overall project planning, organization, execution, and control/monitoring of the project team activities, progress, schedules, and deliverables.
The Project Manager’s role will be critical in ensuring that the project is holistically led and managed to success, overseeing full development life cycle activities including vendor management and stakeholder expectation and relationship management. The PM will be responsible for managing the delivery of the project, as defined in the project statement, e.g. ensuring that the solution is delivered on time, within budget and scope, and with the quality required.
Roles and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Manage the project, with the collaboration of the stakeholder committee in such a way that the work results are delivered on time and within budget.
Participate in the decisions of the stakeholder committee, considering the three perspectives of project management (needs, resources, solution) in order to ensure the quality of results, and in particular the aspect of schedules and budgets.
Define the project management strategy and approach (this may include adapting the work reference model, e.g. the work method or solution delivery process used by the delivery group).
Develop the project statement, the project plans (communication, scope, quality, risk, human resources, schedule, financial and environment requirements), and the various project reports.
Plan, organize, and control the activities and resources of the delivery group.
Lead, support, and follow up on the execution of the project plans.
Interview, select, and integrate new team members into the project.
Define project assignments according to needs and review the performance of team members.
Manage the budget and schedule of the project.
Monitor, evaluate, and report on the progress of the delivery group.
Monitor, evaluate, and report on project performance (budget, cost, schedule, scope, quality, risk, and issue).
Monitor and report on project financial status.
Maintain overall change control procedure, overall project plans, and detailed plan.
Ensure that the project work results are compliant with the stated requirements, priorities, and strategies of the project.
Maintain a liaison with the client, business solution manager, and external providers to coordinate the project activities.
Manage the relationship with the external providers to ensure their performance and products or services meet the contractual agreement.
Integrate the results of the external providers into the project and ensure an appropriate and timely outcome.
Assess and review the performance of the external providers.
Manage change requests and outstanding issues.
Submit major change requests to the coordination and steering committees.
Participate in development workshops, when necessary.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
Participate in the development of project procedures.
Control deliverable review and obtain written approval for them.
Carry out project progress and status reviews.
Recommend corrective actions to the steering committee and ensure execution of approved corrective actions.
Communicate project progress and directions to members of the delivery organization and steering committee.
Raise project issues and risks, as well as quality and scope deviations.
Escalate issues, risks and problems to the identified authority when the situation so requires.
When necessary, participate in contract negotiations with the client and external providers.
Skills and Experience Requirements
Mandatory Skills, Certifications and Experience
10+ years of experience in progressively more senior Project Management roles and more complex projects
Project Management experience successfully leading Application Development projects is required.
Experience with a Formal, structured PM approach used in delivering projects; familiar with and able to progress projects in a client environment where there is a formal, gated approval process.
Experience working with a PMO in a large, complex organization.
Demonstrated experience leading a project from start to finish.
Demonstrated track record in delivering the planned business benefits, on-time and on-budget.
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Very strong financial and budget management experience and capabilities.
Experience Working in a Complex Team Environment
Superb oral and written communications and client management skills with a professional and formal communication style.
Able to form solid relationships with all personality types - and balance competing demands and needs from clients, PMO and IT
Ability to act as an influencer with both Business and IT clients without being perceived as telling the client how to run their business.
Trained in Project Management and certified in a formal PMP methodology.
Formal education in Computer Science preferred.
Desirable Skills, Certifications and Experience
Experience delivering projects in government or crown corporations is an asset.
Consulting Background, including Business Development, is an asset.
Program / Project Director experience an asset.
Experience delivering package implementation projects or GIS application projects is an asset.
Experience with Primavera 6 is an asset
