When it comes to environmental consulting, we’re focused on cleaning up our communities today to improve tomorrow. We’re looking for a Senior Field Engineer/Inspector for the construction of a contaminated mine water treatment plant near the Town of Faro, Yukon, Canada. The Permanent Water Treatment Plant (PWTP) is a key part of the Faro Mine Remediation Project which Jacobs has designed and will serve as the Engineer of Record (EoR) during construction. Jacobs’ primary role consists of field reviews, quality assurance, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, communicating with on-site stakeholders, and keeping the EoR’s informed.

This position will be located at the Faro Mine Permanent Water Treatment Plant near the Town of Faro, Yukon, Canada. The expectation is that work will start virtually in February/March 2024 with design team discussions and project documentation familiarization. Field work will start in April to coincide with the construction period that will run from April to October in 2024. It is anticipated that this scope of work will be completed using an hours-averaged shift rotation. Exact rotations are to be determined, but it is anticipated to be 12-hour days, two weeks on/two weeks off. Jacobs has a townhouse rented in Faro for the field team. For the 2024 construction season, we are looking for an individual with construction experience involving concrete, rebar, and associated civil works.

In this position you’ll report to the Jacobs’ Technical Lead/Supervisor on-site while working closely with and providing supervision to the junior field engineer and mentorship will be important in this role. You’ll have responsibilities for completing daily on-site inspections of the construction work and conduct information reconnaissance and field reviews. The work in 2024 will consist primarily of excavation, backfilling, forming, re-bar, concrete pouring, compaction, site grading, trenching, and storm water management. You’ll have the opportunity to lead Jacobs’ effort with respect to Quality Assurance, liaising with the EoR and Main Construction Manager (MCM) for requirements and Third-Party testing services,. sign-off on QA/QC reports and work with the EoR and MCM to resolve deficiencies, record construction progress, including photographs and daily logs, attend daily safety and progress meetings, as well as weekly virtual meetings with the EoR’s, support the team in responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and issuing site instructions.

Please note: This position will be a seasonal flex one-year contract position.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Minimum 15 years of experience, including concrete field inspection work, preferably on industrial or municipal water treatment projects.

  • Excellent communication skills with clients, contractors, engineers, and operations.

  • Ability to read and understand detailed civil/structural engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Remote location work experience is an asset but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, Structural, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related engineering degree.
