Shell Operations Support Engineer in Calgary, Alberta

Position Purpose

The Shell Canada Production Operations team is seeking an Operations Support Engineer. This team member will provide engineering support to the Integrated Gas Canada Operations organization on surface & subsurface equipment, which includes well sites, pipelines, and four production facilities. The successful candidate will join a high performing team and support the operations organization through troubleshooting, optimizing, and small project execution.

The team and asset are imminently on a growth journey with drilling new wells, shifting from field to facility constraint, and in the future preparing for additional plants and a major mode of operating shift to provide gas to LNGC.

Accountabilities:

  • Build cross-discipline MOC packages for changes in surface/subsurface equipment to support HSSE, regulatory, cost, production, operability, and other drivers. This includes designing the change, aligning stakeholders, and running PHA or What If assessments.

  • Knowledgeable in the methods and tools used to monitor well and field production. Has experience identifying well related uplift opportunities and project managing well intervention work design and execution by working collaboratively with the WME team.

  • Primary contact for engineering support and troubleshooting operational issues. Work extremely close with area operations as main owner and custodian of opportunity and threats (MTO) register, driving work prioritization.

  • Has experience with, and is knowledgeable in, exception-based surveillance (EBS); and will support related continuous improvement initiatives as required.

  • Project development for new threats and opportunities. Projects proved to be viable are executed in house or by the brownfield team with the OSE as the BOM.

  • Proactive well integrity work including annual well maintenance (as per Shell’s eWIMS system), other well maintenance such as downhole equipment inspections, proactive scale and wax treatments

  • Supporting incident investigations or 5 whys, attending HAZOPs, SIL studies, or other assessments for swim lane equipment, turn around support and commissioning support

Please Note: This role needs to work effectively remotely and virtually whilst juggling 30-40% business travel to different Shell sites and provide 24/7 operational support (example: emergency and operational issues on weekends).

Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience; surface, subsurface, production operations, with strong working knowledge of petroleum production operations experience is preferred

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited university

  • P. Eng designation in Canada, or registered with APEGA and EGBC is required
