We are currently recruiting for an Inspection Services - Eddy Current Testing (ECT) Technician II or our facility in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

JOB PURPOSE

The Inspection Services - Eddy Current Testing (ECT) Technician II undertakes moderately complex technical assignments of a repeating nature that are part of an ongoing engineering program in support of activities such as design, testing, production and operation of equipment and systems.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

General Accountabilities

  • Provide support to cross functional teams and Project Management.

  • Participate in site execution of outage and inspection projects (responsibilities assigned depending on status of CGSB qualifications and job requirements).

  • Coordinate and schedule priorities with Supervisor to determine material to be inspected.

  • Participate and conducts NDE inspections in the field.

  • Hands-on and coordinate support of all pre-deployment activities.

  • Accurately complete inspection forms, logs, records, check sheets and review results required as per acquisition (ACQ) Operator.

  • Supervise testing and refurbishing of equipment prior to site deployment.

  • Conduct a variety of standard test/inspection and analytical procedures assigned through verbal or written instructions; recording acceptable data for analysis.

  • Set up tests and collect information using a variety of test materials and equipment, as per Level II or Supervisor instructions.

  • Record and report test results to facilitate comparison with defined standards; notes unusual occurrences which may have significance.

  • Ensure equipment or hardware is adequate for operation. Calibration certificates are reviewed.

  • Execute field tests with the guidance of ET Level II or Supervisor.

  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards and demonstrate a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, the process of Continuous Improvement.

  • Select applicable techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to established procedures.

  • Analyze process, test procedures, equipment and standards in order to identify and recommend potential improvements. Contribute to the development of new methods and equipment.

  • Under minimal supervision, perform process controls, set up, calibration and testing of equipment.

  • May contribute to projects involving costing, material estimating, scheduling, etc.

  • Assist with training of field staff for project execution.

  • May review proposal technical specifications to prepare comments on outage clarifications and deviations to the work scope.

  • May get involved in site work/delivery/ installation documentation.

  • Complete computer and paperwork transactions required to perform ET inspection under BWXT internal process.

  • Communicate with Quality Assurance and Quality Control for improvements and reviews to deliver required documentation for NDT inspections.

  • Lead with assembly, testing and refurbishing of equipment prior to site deployment.

  • Prepare detailed process steps following direction from more senior/professional staff.

  • Understand the basic purpose for the tests/projects in order to make appropriate observations, adjust procedures and note anomalies.

  • Prepare calculations and technical reports.

  • Participate in projects related to functional and analytical design and performance.

  • Assist in locating and correcting operating problems.

  • Take part and may lead in preparing routine engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Participate during the implementation and/or development stages of equipment or hardware operating procedures.

  • Assist during the planning stage of future outage work. Deployment schedules, estimated probe requirements, etc.

Outage Lead Technician Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete inspection forms, logs, records and check sheets required as per acquisition (ACQ) Operator / Lead Technician.

  • Review ACQ Logbooks for equipment information.

  • Complete FME Forms pre and post outage (Supervise crew for completion).

  • Assist with completion of Supervisor Outage checklist.

  • Supervisor logs - during required days off (RDOs) coverage.

  • Time sheets - during required days off (RDOs) coverage.

  • Assist with equipment tracking and allocation.

  • Asist with ET Outage Reports (TPE, SSR, DCINs, MITPs, FME logs), during required days off (RDOs) coverage.

  • Work with Engineering, QA and Management to establish inspection techniques and procedures that will be used by the team to perform inspections at Nuclear Power Plants and various other industrial sites.

  • Assist by reviewing ETS and NS procedures are the correct revision, flag any issues to Supervisor.

  • Assist and review requirements for NS ET training program.

  • Assist by reviewing ET MIPTs.

  • Assist preparing ET SDP (ET calibration STD list, calibration list, personnel certificates).

  • Prepare IT003, IT005 and IT009 and complete before ET inspection. Communicate with QC for any additional requirements and IT004 information.

  • Prepare JSA.

  • Coordinate and communicate with Document Control when preparing documentation (IT003, IT005, calibration list, Crew signature log, Cal certs).

  • Request procedure binders are updated and shipped to outage site.

  • Update probe and equipment inventory.

  • Complete equipment inventory (Rubber Area/Clean equipment).

  • Ensure requirement for Request for Shipment (RFS) process is in place.

  • Must be capable of performing other outage roles as assigned (i.e. Co-Lead, directing work at site, supervising small crews during the day for different tasks, step into the acquisition (ACQ) assistant and Operator as required, work as the Crew Supervisor on RDOs, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technician/Technologist diploma: college graduate in an electrical, mechanical or NDE discipline or equivalent related experience (3 to 5 years).

  • Level I or II NDT Technician with ECT certificate.

  • Should be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the NDT method(s) for which qualified.

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of mechanical experience with NDT industrial equipment (i.e. ZETEC equipment and probes) would be ideal.

  • Up to 70% to 80% site work/travel expected.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to recognize and resolve conflict.

  • Strong ability to conduct testing to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT method(s).

  • Capable of inspecting Heat Exchangers with ET method.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at start of employment is expected to be between $60,000 and $93,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
