This project management role will support new product transfer into Carlsbad manufacturing. This role leads product and manufacturing process development and transfer for new reagent and consumable products using project management standard methodologies. Representing Manufacturing/Operations as the core team member on project teams, this individual will ensure all partners within the department and within the project team are properly represented and that all product infrastructure and processes are defined, documented, and verified, while reducing project risk at each phase of the transfer process.

What will you do?

  • Represent Manufacturing and Operations on new product introduction project core teams.

  • Lead the activities of all operations aspects involved in new product development to ensure a robust transfer from R&D to Manufacturing.

  • Partner with R&D, Product Management, Technical Operations (Manufacturing Sciences and Engineering), and Manufacturing work centers to deliver highly reproducible products and processes.

  • Develop and maintain detailed plans and schedules for all tasks owned by Manufacturing/Operations.

  • Perform manufacturing process design reviews and risk assessments.

  • Generation and maintenance of the Manufacturability Index as part of the Operations Plan and Report.

  • Create and update documented transfer plans and reports.

  • Prepare presentations and conduct reviews for Manufacturing/Operations readiness.

  • Prepare written work instructions and manufacturing product documentation.

  • Implement developmental outputs into product infrastructure, SKU creation, manufacturing process, documentation and procedures.

  • Direct extended team activities and lead without authority

  • Effective and consistent communication of progress and challenges to all project partners including, but not limited to, the project core team, functional department managers/supervisors, site leaders and extended team members.

  • Lead multiple projects using project management standard methodologies.

  • Lead cross-site/external site projects.

  • Investigate and apply process improvements using the Practical Process Improvement methodology.

How will you get there?

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering or related field with 5+ years post undergraduate or equivalent experience

  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to balance multiple priorities and projects

  • Requires the ability to influence upwards and across business functions

  • Understands overall manufacturing processes and has experience to proactively identify constraints and improvement opportunities

  • Understands the key concepts of lean manufacturing and ISO 9001 requirements

  • Strong project management skills and knowledge

  • E1 and/or other ERP experience

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, and V-Lookups) and ability to use Microsoft Project

  • Familiar with Design Excellence tools and principles: Six Sigma, DFSS, and DOE

  • Familiar with statistical analysis software such as JMP and/or Minitab.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred but not required.
