SUMMARY

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for reviewing and managing the finished goods inventory, picking, and shipping processes.  Supervises and coordinates activities of workers concerned with picking product and preparing it for both domestic and international shipment.  Will coordinate shipments through a multitude of shipping methods such as express, LTL, LCL, ocean freight, air freight, HAZMAT, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Warehouse & Shipping

  • Responsible for finished goods inventory accuracy, periodic physical counts, and management of shipping supplies.

  • Responsible for sales order fill rate and productivity of picking, packing, shipping processes.

  • Responsible for shipment accuracy and implementation of corrective measures.

  • Responsible for creation of domestic and international shipping documentation such as packing lists, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, int’l shipping documents, etc.

  • Maintain compliance of international shipping and customs regulations.

  • Analyze shipping methods and carriers to determine most cost-effective solutions.

  • Make recommendations for productivity improvements and implement required changes to optimize the processes.

  • Determine space requirements and min-max inventories in the finished goods warehouse based on demand analysis.  Ensure product is shipped on a FIFO basis.

  • Develop and update written procedures for each task.  Standardize work and cross train employees.

  • Coordinate with other business functions such as production, sales, customer service, and quality assurance.

    Management / Leadership

  • Promotes the company culture within the team.

  • Participate actively in the weekly Leadership Team meeting.

  • Schedule daily work hours based on numbers of orders to ensure fill rate and reduce overtime.  Request additional resources and schedule overtime to complete shipments on time during peak periods (first week of the month).

  • Define associate’s work schedule and control overtime.  Control employee attendance and work schedule compliance.  Authorize PTO requests.

  • Perform routine administrative controls and activities.  Complete employee performance reviews.

    Industrial Safety, Health, and Environmental

    • Ensures implementation and adherence of the company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure cleanliness and order of the finished goods warehouse, picking, and shipping areas. 

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervises a total of 10+ shipping workers.

       

                           

    QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE    

    • Associated Degree Required (Bachelor degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Mgt preferred).
  • 5-7 years shipping and distribution experience in high volume international traffic environment.  Asian market experience / knowledge preferred.

  • Understanding of put-away and picking strategies finished goods warehouse flow.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.

  • Intermediate knowledge of MRP software; SAP, Oracle, Sage X3, etc.

  • Knowledge of proprietary shipping software from carriers such as UPS, Fedex, DHL.

  • Knowledgeable of US and international export rules and regulations.

  • Understands international transportation and customs practices.

  • Experience working with freight forwarders and international commercial terms.

  • HAZMAT certification preferred.

  • Have a high degree of detail accuracy.

  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, speaking, coordinating and organizational skills

  • Be able to motivate others and lead by example.

  • Be able to pro-actively assess a situation and make timely and correct decisions.

  • Must be a team player with ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and follow-up on requests.

  • Must be able to perform well under pressure.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to operate a computer and calculator, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

     LOCATION

This position is not a remote position, must report to Charlotte, NC location Monday - Friday.
