Synchrony VP, Information Security Technology Engineering Leader in CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Information Security Technology Engineering Leader is responsible for driving the security strategy and implementation of the overall Information Security Technology stack and supporting capabilities.  This position will lead an advanced Information Security Engineering program in designing, deploying and monitoring technologies used in preventing adversaries and ultimately securing the business.

This position is eligible to work remote, where you will work from home, and may require you to occasionally commute to one of our hubs for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Remote candidates will be considered who live near any Synchrony hub including: Alpharetta, GA, Chicago, IL, Costa Mesa, CA, Stamford, CT, New York, NY, Altamonte Springs, FL, Charlotte, NC, Dayton, OH, St. Paul, MN or Phoenix, AZ.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform people management responsibilities of the Information Security Engineering leads

  • Accountablefor the overall Information Security engineering program which includes all engineering duties, operations, and “day to day” run duties

  • Develop a team of engineers whose primary function is to build and configure security solutions based on architecture standards and tool operations specifications

  • Building a world class engineering excellence program focused on autonomy, automation, and security by design concepts

  • Partner closely with Information Security Architecture,Cyber Operations,Application teams, and CTO organizations to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the core Information Security programs

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g.Application Engineering, Architecture, Operations) to engineer security solutions focused on protecting theorganizations'applications

  • Collaborate with security architects to research and recommend technology and business process solutions to secure the business and give the company a competitive advantage in alignment with strategic direction

  • Assisting architecture on defining security best practices, guidelines, patterns and working to embed these requirements within capabilities to drive automation

  • Builds and maintains relationships with key vendors to understand the market and direction of information security

  • Accountable for strategic technology engineering across Information Security

  • Develops strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure customer’s SLAs are met

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BachelorsDegree in Computer Science, Engineering with a minimum of7years experiencewithInformationSecurity and either systems administration, networking, data analysis or application development or equivalent or higher in CS, Technology, a related technical or engineering field.  In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma\GED and a minimum of 10years experiencewith information security and either systems administration, networking, data analysis or application development.

  • Minimum6years of software + hardware architecture experience

  • Minimum6years productionizing applications in an enterprise environment

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with the evaluation of emerging technology and /or experience as a technology innovator or maker + Demonstrated understanding of security vulnerabilities, attacks and ability to apply/implement appropriate controls or find new ones based on new technology being developed.

  • Familiarity with the Synchrony Financial environment, security controls and strong knowledge of a plurality of languages, operating systems, and databases, plus previous experience working on an R&D or architecture team

  • MastersDegreein a technology related field from an accredited university Enterprise Role

  • Strong engineering / architecture skills especially in security

  • Strong influencing, collaboration and team building skills

  • Demonstrate strategicthinking skills and ability todevelop and communicate the vision for Information Security Engineering

  • Familiarity with Cloud Security, Insider Threat Detection, Application Security, and Authentication

  • Exceptional analytical/critical thinking abilities - must be able to analyze proposed technological solutions to not only understand how mechanisms work, but to also develop methods of effectively testing and evaluating technologies

  • Strong written communication skills - must be able to write technical whitepapers/reports on emerging technologies

  • Strong oral communication skills

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must have at least a “consistently meets expectations” performance rating and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance requirement).

The salary range for this position is 115,000.00 - 230,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
