Dollar Tree Indirect Tax Director in Chesapeake, Virginia

Summary of Position (Job Purpose) - Major purpose and functions of the position.

The Indirect Tax Director will lead the Indirect Tax Audit team strategically overseeing all Indirect Tax Audits and Controversy. The Director will work closely with Compliance and Tax Technology and Data to resolve audits effectively and efficiently. This position requires a sharp, analytical, and strategic thinker who can take charge of projects, manage teams, and be proactive.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary tasks the associate will perform during his/her work schedule.

The Indirect Tax Director will lead the Indirect Tax Audit team while strategically overseeing all Indirect Tax Audits and Controversy. The Director will work closely with Compliance and Tax Technology and Data to resolve audits effectively and efficiently.

The Director will provide guidance on continuous improvements and streamlining processes. Establish and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities and external advisors. Manage Indirect Tax Audits and inquiries, negotiate with tax authorities, and resolve tax disputes. Support tax policy by monitoring changes in tax legislation and communicating implications to the organization. Mentor and develop team members, providing ongoing feedback and identifying growth opportunities.

The Director will manage sales and use tax accuracy for Dollar Tree Sourcing Company (sales /use tax on purchases) and lead transformation efforts to improve efficiency and accuracy.

The Director will also oversee account reconciliations for all indirect tax accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance providing commentary and variance analysis during close, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Manage Indirect Tax SOX reporting and maintain strong internal controls.

Work closely with management to ensure the company's FAS 5 reserves are adequate.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.

  • 10 plus years’ experience with increasing responsibilities in public accounting or large corporate tax department or combination

  • BA or BS degree

  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax, product tax, excise tax, transaction tax, gross receipts tax, and tax technical concepts

  • Proficiency in tax data analysis and leveraging data to optimize tax strategies

  • Experience with Vertex, OneSource, or other tax products

  • Tax Research, Legislation review and analysis

  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities

  • Team leader with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong knowledge of FAS 5 / ASC 450

  • Strong project management skills

  • Experience in managing state audits and controversy

  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office

Desired Qualifications - Desired but not required.

  • J.D. of Law, CPA, Masters in Accounting, Finance or Business.

  • Retail experience
