Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Fields requests for copies of reports via telephone, mail, fax and the public service counter from law enforcement, authorized agencies, businesses, and the general public.

  • Disseminates police records in accordance with prescribed department directives and statutory requirements to law-enforcement personnel, the general public and private agencies. These include the following:

  • Traffic Accident Reports

  • Case Reports

  • Access and Review (Fingerprinting and Rapsheets)

  • Visa Clearance Letters and Name Checks

  • Manually and electronically conducts name checks.

  • Prepare visa clearances letters.

  • Formulates letters for the public.

  • Receive and file all non-electronically produced police reports.

  • Fill requests for copies of reports via telephone, mail and fax.

  • Retrieves and disseminates police reports in accordance with prescribed federal regulations and state statute requirements regarding the Crime Victim’s Compensation Act.

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.

Eligible candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented. For active military personnel, you must attach a letter from your Commanding Officer on official stationary verifying your active duty, length of service, and character of service in the Armed Forces of the United States AND a copy of your military ID to your online application. Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.

  • Education, Training, and Experience: Two years of work experience in customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experienc

  • WORKING CONDITIONS : General office environment

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Three (3) years customer service

  • Three (3) years Data entry experience

  • Experience working in a law enforcement setting

  • Associates Degree
