Job Description:
Join CDM Smith's Transportation team as a Railway Signal Systems Specialist and make a significant impact! Our goal is to improve the long-term mobility of both people and goods. Our team is comprised of technical specialists who possess extensive knowledge in various design areas, including roads, bridges, structures, traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, public transit, and more!
-This opportunity will support signal design projects, field investigations, control center integration, and on-site field support needs.
Collaborate with diverse project teams in developing plans, specifications, and estimates of signal system design components. Typical projects may include interlocking design, roadway crossing warning devices, switch heat control, block impacts due to adjacent station or traction power work, and back-office SCADA system integration coordination.
Interface directly with clients, designers, and engineers from other disciplines and consultants.
Implement and conform to CDM Smith’s, clients’, or prime consultants’ overlapping Quality Management Systems.
Provide input into construction cost estimating and scheduling activities for railway and systems projects.
Provide construction administrative support in the review of submittals and RFIs.
Support on-site implementation of back-office SCADA system integration to wayside systems.
Conduct field inspections and data gathering for verification of as-built plans.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree.
-12 years of related experience.
-Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
-Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical engineering, or 10 years experience as a railway systems signal engineer including field experience.
5-10 years experience with SCADA system communications and railway signal systems interface.
5-10 years experience with railway signal and train control design, vital microprocessors, and interlocking design.
5-10 years experience with microprocessor-based roadway crossing warning systems design, commissioning, and testing.

Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with transit, commuter, and freight rail operating environment, experience with electrified railway preferred.
Familiarity with American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Communications & Signals (C&S) manual.
Familiarity with train control systems such as Positive Train Control (PTC) and Transit Automatic Train Control (ATC) or Automatic Train Operation (ATO) systems.
Familiarity with SCADA systems in railway applications, including back-office communications, and design experience.
Familiarity with various locking types and design methodologies.
Familiarity with QEI Worldview.
Familiarity with train tracking and dispatch systems.
Ability to plan and produce signal design work products, including plans and specifications.
Experience providing technical oversight and guidance to technical teams.
Ability to work in a team environment with multiple disciplines including civil, track, traction power, and communications.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

Additional Compensation:
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
