Position Description

About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Server Engineer with expertise in server virtualization to join our dynamic IT team. As a Server Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our server infrastructure, with a focus on virtualization technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Server Virtualization:

  • Provided technical support for various virtualization environments, including Hyper-V and VMware, servicing 4,000+ servers.

  • Implement, deploy, and administer Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware virtualization in large, clustered environments.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop and implement virtualization best practices and standardization.

  • In-depth troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

  • Proactively monitor server environments.

  • Experience with hypervisor-agnostic workload relocation and backup tools for migrations and business continuity (e.g., Zerto, ASR) is highly desired.

  • Understanding of Storage Technologies such as EMC, HP, NetApp, and NAS.

  • Conduct capacity planning and predictive analysis for virtual server environments.

  • Utilize tools and software (e.g., RPA, Orchestrator, Ansible) to automate server builds and processes.

  • Engage and manage support escalations with vendors such as Microsoft, VMware, Dell, and HP.

Server Administration:

  • Familiarity with Windows OS’s up to 2022, and common Linux distributions.

  • Datacenter server racking, stacking, and hardware server parts replacement. Including yearly refresh project, maintenance, and new system deployments. (Dell and HP experience highly desirable).

  • Advanced Windows Server troubleshooting skills.

  • Solve highly complex problems, collaborating on cross-team and cross-product technical issues.

  • Demonstrate progressive, in-depth knowledge of security best practices.

  • Ensure satisfaction of Data Center installation projects.

  • Solid understanding of networking principles such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.

  • Skilled with scripting languages (PowerShell, VB, .net) to automate administrative tasks and processes (Desired).

  • Understanding of member server AD and GPO processing.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Provide after-hours support and actively participate in 24x7 365 On-Call rotations, which involve quarterly one-week secondary and one-week primary rotations. This includes promptly responding promptly to inbound phone calls, emails, and automated paging alerts.

  • Track and document all incidents, including root cause.

  • Prepare detailed status reports and collaborate with tech leads, technology services managers, and escalation resources.

  • Complete special projects and annual objectives as assigned.

  • Collaborate with fellow team members to resolve complex technical issues.

  • Proactively research issues and help develop solutions.

  • Engage with individuals with tact, courtesy, mutual respect, and professionalism.

  • Collaborate/develop standard configuration templates, processes, and procedures.

  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, and maintain regular, dependable attendance.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

    Position Requirements

Education:

  • A B.S. degree in C.S. or E.E. or equivalent experience is desirable.

Experience, Specific Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a Server Engineer or in a similar role.

  • 4 to 7 years of direct work experience.

  • Ability to build and troubleshoot Hyper-V, VMware, and Windows Hosts.

  • Experience with In-person deployment, administration, and troubleshooting blade, rack-mount, and virtual server infrastructure.

  • Advanced level knowledge of Hyper-V and VMware virtualization technologies.

  • Advanced working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and related technologies.

  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking technologies and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to Change Control and other processes.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Excellent communication, written and verbal skills.

  • Scripting skills with PowerShell.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Basic server hardware certification (A+, Dell, HP, etc.) is highly desired.

  • Microsoft certifications preferred.

  • Azure Cloud certifications are a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting: Moderate lifting, occasionally exceeding 50 pounds, necessitating teamwork or the use of team lifting assistance and mechanisms such as hoists.

  • Sitting, Standing, Walking: This role involves a mix of sitting, standing, and walking activities.

  • Bending, Kneeling: Occasional bending and kneeling may be required for specific tasks.

  • Pushing, pulling: The position may involve pushing, pulling, and lifting objects such as server racks or pallets of computer equipment.

Location:

  • This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO

Working Conditions:

  • Office/Datacenter

  • On-site support is required on core onsite support days (Mon-Weds), Thurs and Fri are potential work from home/flex days.

  • Some on-site support may be required on flex days or nights/weekends for emergencies or planned after-hours activities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not currently have any supervisory responsibilities.

The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This position may perform other duties as assigned.

Pay range: $82,300 -$132,800. This position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
