Responsible for coaching and mentoring less experienced team members Provide Level 3/4 engineering support for the database environments, upgrades, SQL writing and tuning, Data refreshes, configuration, security, monitoring and tuning, disaster recovery and provides a high level of user support. Working with or without the Database Principal Engineer, prototypes new features/functionality for scalability, performance and standards and documentation. Handles database audits. Proactive Health check monitoring and remediation. Maintains current professional and technical skills. Keep abreast of current and emerging technologies, how they integrate and drive value for Huntington​.

Brief Description:

The Technology Infrastructure team at Huntington is looking for an Engineer and leader who can help us solve problems, build, and maintain our databases, and lead Huntington in Database automation and best practices.

Detailed Description:

As a Lead Db2 LUW Database Engineer, you will play a critical in engineering and supporting Huntington's Business Systems and Operations across our footprint. You will also drive the database engineering and operations best practices, governance and standards in Huntington. As a Sr. Engineer, you will leverage your knowledge and skills to deploy and manage various database technologies in Test and Production environments for various mission critical applications. You will also provide technical leadership to immediate and extended teams along with providing technical mentorship as needed.

  • Managing wide variety databases, particularly must be highly experienced in database backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configuration

  • Database technologies include: Db2 LUW, PostgreSQL

  • Primary expertise needed is in Db2 LUW. The ideal candidate would have familiarity in more than one database technology

  • Forward thinking infrastructure automation (DevOps, Infrastructure as Code) and advanced scripting skills

  • Leads in managing client’s expectations and communicates proactively.

  • Requires little to none supervision while identifying tasks associated with responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other DBAs, participates in internal projects, and leads multiple initiatives

  • Provide DBA suggestions and input on direction for database domain strategy.

  • Guides and provides direction for use of best practices and application database solutions to Huntington's development teams

  • Reviews new tools and products that assist in providing database support and services

  • Design and champion cross-training program in databases

  • Plans and coordinates data migrations between systems

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Min 7 years of experience in designing, architecting, and supporting databases for mission critical applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of database management (Installation, creation of new instances, space management, database reorganization and internals, backup and recovery, replication, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, identification of bottlenecks in locks, waits)

  • Strong working knowledge of databases with relevant certifications.

  • Good understanding of security standards and best practices around database platforms

  • Ability to work with internal and external audit teams

  • Familiarity with various aspects of compliance - controls, policies, standards etc.

  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience

  • Advanced knowledge of Db2 LUW HADR solution and automating failovers with TSAMP & Pacemaker

  • Advanced knowledge of Db2 LUW & PostgreSQL internals and database tuning

  • Experience in Q-Replication

  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL tuning background

  • Working knowledge of backup/recovery

  • Intermediate implementation knowledge of hash partitioning and/or sharding concepts

  • Database Administration activities - cluster configuration, upgrades, patches, and security

  • Understanding of logical and physical data models on structured and unstructured data patterns

  • Demonstrates an understanding of Database Engineering’s and Operations' role in supporting business processes

  • Demonstrates the ability to participate in cross functional teams for estimating, application designs, and implementation strategies

  • Uses strong verbal and written communication skills to build awareness and to proactively promote DBA’s position in support of sound database structures, data governance and other corporate strategies

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize efforts

  • Ability to pick up new technologies at a quick pace

  • Ability to work with team members located in multiple geographies (offshore teams)

  • Displays excellent collaborative skills with cross-functional teams

  • Provide positive customer service to internal business partners
